Modern Hunter/IMI mags

I'm fine with it. We have 10 round mags that work with a fix around the corner. Maybe that guy that makes mag extensions for the lar-15 could come up with an extention for the xcr-m pistol mags.

I am fine with it also - lots of XCR mags around, they work well without getting in the way by being too long and got hung up in use.
When I had my XCR the 10 rounder was perfect for real use; for shooting prone or from benches it was great.
- the 5 might have been too short. Plus, I have no love of PMags. They changed their specs for some reason that affected us indirectly. Such is life.
MH is a fine rifle that fits my requirements.

I understand that for some, the large PMags were a preference.

I don't care specifically about pmags,.. but the ability to use a mag that's at least 5/20 is a must for me, otherwise i don't want it.... some of us are not buying this as a precision bench gun.

To be clear - I am not using it for a benchrest rifle either (although it may do that from time to time) but for an actual carry to shoot and kill animal hunting weapon. My XCR was used for coyotes all the time. The shorter mags to me were a requirement. Others may have other uses for the rifle.

This won't be used for my hunting either, this will be my toy.. that is all, it may go on the odd coyote or deer trip maybe as a backup.. i have lots of hunting and precision guns. I got rid of a 50 bmg and my ar15 to have this as a gun i can take anywhere for the days i just want to have fun.

This is such a non issue for me. At the range i can use cheap and easy to buy xcrm pistol mags.
If/when atrs brings out their mags it'll be even better. There are so many guns with specific mags, I don't know why this is such a big deal. For those stuck on magpul, just look harder, they can be found

Why is a 5/20 a must?

Aesthetics mostly, but in some rare instance if this country did away with mag limits im not stuck with a gun that only holds 5,, plus if rcmp gets their way and we are not allowed to use pistol mags then we are limited to 5 in any mag configuration and quite honestly if im spending this much money i want my gun to look how i want it too. And i personally with my configuration it wouldn't look right without a longer mag. As our laws sit now it wouldn't serve any other purpose than to look good :) but thats what i want and im paying good money to do so!

I have to agree, I prefer the LOOK of the 5/20 in the Modern Hunter, but for actual use, I've found the 10 round XCR-M mags are the ideal size.
As soon as I am able to, I will get a picture of one of our mags (currently in development) in the hunter so you can see.

I agree completely with polskiogorki. I like the look of the longer mags, it gives the illusion of living in a free country. They work much better with mag pouches. Who knows what the future may hold. We might one day be able to have normal capacity mags.
Mostly I'd just like to have some mags that were readily available, worked 100%, held at least 5 rounds and were priced reasonably. Personally I'd be very happy if I could pay extra to have my MH changed so it would use gen3 pmags.

I would too..but i bet if it was that easy they would probably just make the changes instead of spending the money to develop their own mags,,..
On that note guys listen up, if your going to make your own mags that work i really hope you give us some options like a short and a long mag option. But i can't see how it would be better for you financially to make your own proprietary mags than to make a few software changes on the cnc machine and have it work with mags that are already available, i think it would be a deterrent to future buyers. Sure the first few owners may be disappointed that they are limited to mag options but that's the risk of being the first.. just like the first model year of a new car.
I would be much happier to be have the choice of what mags i use... of course i would have a few short mags for use when need be, but definitely want some long window mags for play time :)

As Farshot has mentioned, our concern with basing it off of their Gen 3 PMAG, is that we made that mistake once already basing the rifle off the Gen 2. It turns out a lot of rifles have problems with the 308 Gen 3 PMAGS, so how long will it be before Magpul releases Gen 4, and if it doesn't work then?

We are basing our polymer mags off of the ASC SR-25 style (which essentially is the XCR-M mag). The body is rougly a "15 capacity look", but it's limited internally so no unsightly rivets. I just put the prototype into the base model with dpms handguard and A2 fixed stock, and frankly it looks pretty awesome. Just the right amount hanging out the bottom.

If they have lots of problems with the Gen 3 like you're telling, it's a good news for us isnt it? I'm guessing the Gen 4 might work in the MH then!

Not to keep bringing out negativity, im not that kind of guy, and i know you are all trying your best but the middle of the road mag may be the wrong direction, to long for some applications, too short for others. Would it really be too hard to match the mh to long standing mags that you know are not going to change like dpms or the imi mags? If not give us some options, say a shorty mag for hunting and bench and a nice long one for the people that want that look. The people that don't care will be happy with the short mags and the people that want long mags will be very happy they have that option, and finally i really hope your mags can be disassembled and come with full length springs just in case of a change in the laws, however unlikely that may be.
Thats my position on the matter, i won't bug anymore!

At this point I would happily invest in mags that were designed for my rifle as long as they were inexpensive, durable, lightweight, asthetic.

I do like some of the ideas that have been thrown out for possible solutions to this issue.

To the guy saying "gen 2 mags are still available if you look"...i implore you to have a go at it. I have called every mag carrier in canada, posted on forums, even called magpul several times (one call to see if i could find out who the last of the gen2 were shipped to). So please, you tell all of us where you find them and well gladly clean them out.

Oh and as far as magpul is concerned, the gen 3 mag is working 100% on all intended rifle platorms and they dont foresee any reason to make changes. The gen 3 pmag has now addressed all previous functionality issues we were having with our gen 2 line. If you have a rifle the gen 3 does not function in then it is the rifle you are using not the magazine. Thats paraphrased from my last conversation with them. Contradictory if you ask me...but their response none the less.
