Modern Sporter - Build Discussions

I don't think you understand what it means to be a sustenance hunter....maybe I don't either....
Call your provincial CFO or your local Conservation officers. I couldn't find any legal information pertaining to subsistence hunting so I called the Alberta CFO and my local officers. It was stated to me that applying for sustenance hunting was on the PAL application and that it is akin to trappers up North/ATC and rarely approved. It was strongly recommended that you do not take your prohibited rifle to hunt with unless you have treaty rights or are classified as a sustenance hunter. At a minimum I was told your rifle would be seized and likely facing charges.

Hopefully this is an issue that we can gain some clarity on through upcoming court proceedings....I'd rather not be the one to find out through my own court battle.
Wasn't it worded sustinance and not sustenance in the OIC?
And it's there a difference between the two?

Sustinance hunting is regarded as hunting for food out of tradition, where as sustinance hunting is hunting for food , out of necessity.

I can trace my traditional hunting background ,back to 5 generations.
I believe it need only be 2 generations to be considered a tradition.
So I'm good to go...lol

I assume that unless you are carded it's a no go....but don't let me stop you from figuring it out in court....

Is that the actual and original OIC doc?
I e seen others that say sustinance and I recall seeing sustinance in the original doc.

I think sustenance hunting in Canada would be hard to prove.
And I highly doubt many, if any native people truly sustenance hunt.
I can only imagine the chaos if I told my wife, that she can o ly eat moose meat from now on.

And she's Native.

Yes, I took that first screenshot from the OIC

Keep those MS coming while we wait for this OIC garbage to be thrown out in court

Right on
What about this? ( just in case there's any confusion, I'm of the opinion that the MS is not prohibited and will use mine for hunting purposes, to sustain my family and keep my traditions alive)
It clearly says Individuals and not indigenous in the first statement.View attachment 412258

MS was not named in the OIC, in my opinion it was changed to prohibited arbitrarily and illegally.
Stags were named specifically.
Using both is risky and may land you in court...not something I have the time and $ to test....maybe others feel they do.
I am waiting for clarification from the courts. Just don't forget that firearms seized by the crown might be forfeited to the crown.

Yup 45C that is the get out of jail free card.

Sustain, sustenance. To prolong life. You need food to do that. Grab a tag and your ATRS and go enjoy the season. That said, you couldn't morally or ethically hunt with a firearm you haven't practiced with or sighted in properly before hand correct? ;) Sorry for the derail. Back to your rifle builds guys.

I hear ya.
I have neither the time nor $ either, but I'm not going to be pushed around like a hard on, by a bunch of lying, lowlife burocrat.

I'll save you an email. The FA's were suppose to go out of anodizing last Tuesday September 1st. If you're waiting for one of the FA's, I expect them to be ready right away (perhaps next week???), but that is only my speculation. Mine was ordered last November btw...

Received my build from ATRS a week ago and am 100% satisfied with how it turned out. Shoots like a champ, weighed in at 5.8 lbs without optics, and very well balanced. The TT trigger is awesome!!!

A big shout out to Dustin who assisted in spec'ing the rifle.
