Modern Sporter

Off topic, but this necro thread brought up a question of mine. When the conservstives inevitably get in and undo the OIC crap are you guys going to sell MS rifles or receivers again? I badly want one but won’t pay gougey current prices of the classified/gûñpö$ț
$2500 for a set will continue to be a bargain I predict.

You're gonna be in for a surprise if they do go back on sale. Dude lost boat loads of money from the prohibition order, plus the legal fees from fighting it... Don't be shocked if the cost is on par with EE pricing or higher. Look at every black rifle made in Canada, almost all of them are garbage and cost as much as a mid-high endish AR.
Yeah it’s understandable and I wouldn’t be surprised at a massive increase. Surely spent a fortune on legal fees. I had a Raven and it grouped nice and ran well, just annoying with all the proprietary parts ie the BCG and CH.

Not to be bearish but I truly believe those days are gone, I truly believe the laws are never going back to the way they were even if somehow we get a conservative government. Time will tell I suppose and I truly do hope I am wrong but just look at the way the world is going……

the new firearms definitions would make AR15s non-restricted so $2500 would be horrificly overpriced for a "not an AR15" when AR15s are available for CAD$417 (USD$300) in the USA and even with a 25% price bump to say CAD$500 every Canadian centrefire semi auto firearm manufacturer would get annihilated

Do you happen to have a link or more info on the new definitions? Everything I got on Google was about C21.

It's on the Conservatives website under policies
Are you referring to this or something else?

$100 says no unrestricted AR15s with Conservative government.

The second last line "A Conservative government would streamline Firearms classification by adopting the Simplified Classification System."

The simplified classification system was adpted as policy by the conservatives at convention in... I think 2018 ? Anyways, basically simplified they boil it down to :
Full auto, prohibited. Over 26" ? Non restricted. Under 26" ? Restricted.

It would make life so much simpler. And we could make AT15's again.

$300 USD AR15's were never available in Canada, they always get the price jacked up. Even using IRG your adding $200 USD on top.
the best value I can recall was the S&W M&P15 (which was a killer deal).

that being said... That comparison is like saying no one in Canada owns a bolt gun nicer than a Savage Axis.
I mean... I own triggers that cost more than some people's entire rifles.

Would it shift the industry ? Absolutely.
Would that change have some risks ? You bet.
Would we try to compete with the cheap stuff? Not a chance... but we'd happily sell upgraded parts for them, build high end billet receivers, etc.

But... I'll believe it when I see it.

That´s right, in 2020 the best price in Canada was circa CAD$750. Prices were higher in the US then to. The USD$300 cheapest model is from November 2024 as prices have lowered.

No it´s not like that at all. I am saying that a significant portion of the market will buy the cheapest they can get, the SKS is popular because it´s cheap. The WK180 and other Canadian rifles have sold as many as they have because they are the same price or less than all other in production alternatives (RDB, Type 81 etc. all sit at circa $1500 - $1800).

Of course people will want a higher end AR15 if the new NR definition is used. I just simply think that short of assembling US made parts no Canadian company is likely to be able to compete with the economies of scale with the USA if making the same thing. There´s 36x more gun owners in the USA, and they can sell to us more easily than we can sell to them.

Very few people would look at a $1000 Chinese AK, a $750 US AR, and a $1800 Canadian 180 variant and say "I want the Canadian gun" and that´s what I mean when I say that the change would devestate the Canadian semi auto industry. As far as I know it´s people and procurement are aligned with 180 variants and it´d take longer to procure parts, assemble and sell than for say North Sylva to import AR15s in.

Oh absolutely, me too. I can hope but I won´t hold my breath
