Modern Varmint Rifle Updated Oct 14 2015

It was mentioned previously that these won't be an option due to liability issues. I believe it's only 223 and possibly 204 if they can make it work reliably.
It would be nice to have optional uppers in the future. The Modern Varminter could rival the Modern Hunter with a .50 Beowulf upper for < 300 yards and 6.5 Grendel for > 300 yards. A lightweight, durable, do it all rifle.

Is there any significant difference in accuracy between the CF wrapped barrel and SS barrel? Is it possible to get a non-threaded barrel?

The only differences between the 2 apart from cost is weight, the CFW barrels weight 40% less than the same contour SS barrels do.
Heat dissipation is also better, but the looks cool factor is likely the biggest selling feature.
The weight of the CFW barrel is almost identical to the lightest contour SS barrel.

ALL the MV barrels will be threaded for 1/2x28 for muzzle device. A muzzle cap/thread protector is an option for those who do not want to run a muzzle device.

You might consider marketing these for Service Rifle competition - all the best features of the AR, without the restrictions.

I was thinking this too!
Plus I could yote hunt with it afterwards

Gonna have to sell a couple rifles, but it could easily replace the purpose of a couple rifles.

The day we get the FRT# we will be ordering materials. I would expect about 6 to 8 months after that until the 1st production run is completed.

Will the first production run modern hunter buyers be contacted for the first run of the MV or should we be contacting you? I put off purchasing an extra upper for the MH so I could be prepared for the MV.

I see that the MH works best with match ammo and not with all ammo as per your website. Can the same be said for the MV, or will it be able to work with surplus .556/.223 for plinking?

I have a question regarding the function of the charging handle. I've tried to look at MH videos and such but haven't got my answer..

I take the side charging handle does not reciprocate with the BCG. On multiple videos I've seen the OP "clip" and the charging handle after he "loads" the rifle. Does Something bad happens if you forget to "clip" it back? Would it be possible to have it spring loaded like the JP side charger system so you dont have to clip it?

Does the side charger "funnel" gets dirty or does crud accumulates in there?

No, the handle does not reciprocate. And I've noticed that that "channel" does not get dirty. Using the bolt lock is not that difficult. With the charging handle on the same side, you do need two hands to lock the bolt back. It just takes some getting used to.

Why in the world would you put surplus through a 3k rifle? Factory 223 is cheap enough.

Interestingly, my acr loved norinco yellow jacket, moa all day long. I'd be happy to shoot the norinco if it shot as well. Alas, the modern hunter loves Hornady, to shoot anything less will simply rock gongs at 100 all day long.... wait..

It would not be any more difficult to make the chambering in 20 Practical, simply a different chamber reamer is used. Neither barrel manufacturer offers this however.
The other part of the equation is that 20 Practical is a wildcat, meaning not commercially available and unfortunately even if it is the very best option we have to consider liability, just like every other firearms manufacturer.
To commercially produce a firearm knowing that it is a handload only proposition is simply setting oneself up for trouble, liability and probably litigation.

IF it were mainsteam and some of the big makers were offering it there would be a slightly better chance.
Same thing with 300 Blackout, the liability is too great as subsonic ammo is readily available in that cartridge and the incidence of sub-sonics not exiting the muzzle on longer barrel is well established, which is the reason we will not be offering 300 Blackout.

Very disappointing, but thanks for the answer, it looks like I may be out. I'm dead set on a .20 cal.
