Modified vs Cylinder bore

As already stated, great stopping power against predators, especially the 3" Black Magic. They also have quite the 'rep for accuracy.

If I ever find some, I'll shoot a few in my PGO because 00 Buck is child's play. Even she can do it:

What's so good about these slugs and why do we want them?

they are the ultimate bear or large ungulate slug. the slug is made really hard and does not deform and squat like regular foster slugs. it provides deep penetration. what i would want to take in the bush. not a plinkin round.

Hogue grip and muzzle brake, piece of cake shooting from the hip. If you saw my 'guns' you wouldn't be doubting it.

Baggy pantsers double wield them:

i thought you were talking stock mossy jic. muzzel break and rubber grips help. still would be a handfull. id like to see the guy in the vid dual wield with a 3 inch magnum black magic slug in each gun lol.

I guess these Brenekke slugs would be the sort not recommended for modified bores, as mentioned in post #77 ?

I remember people telling me that the muzzle brake on my Roadblocker was useless, when 00 Buck feels almost the same as birdshot - I would say that it definitely works. Everything hurt with the terrible OEM hard polymer PG. Hogue overmolded PG has been a godsend. I have confidence that I could shoot anything that it would successfully chamber, from the hip. I'm going to put a stock on my Roadblocker eventually and see how I like it.

I'd still buy the 14" Modified barrel if Irunguns will bring them in for my 14" 590.

Depending on the round, but most of their slugs, including the 3" Black Magic are good to go in all chokes. At least that's what Brenneke's 'site says.

I believe they are safe to fire through chokes, the concern is long term use and wear to the choke or modified bore as opposed to soft lead slugs...

3" magnum Brenneke slug + pistol grip = ouch.

Naw, a .44 Mag revolver with "bear" loads is harder to handle IMO.

Speaking of Brennekes, they're my serious use slug brand of choice, but I can normally get by with cheaper and more readily available alternatives, like Clever 'Palla Solengo' or Fiocchi Aero Slugs.

I'm sure it is, better yet a .454 revolver. But the one-handed pistol grip shotgun 3" Brenneke recipe would still be a bad day.

Its not that bad, holding the gun out at arm's length put a lot more strain on my wrist that the actual shots did. A lot probably depends on the pistol grip though, I was using a Butler Creek side folder with the stock detached.

Barrel swaps take about 5 seconds to complete and you don't have to alter a barrel. I think a barrel is about $150 US, probably close (or less) than the expense of the work you had done. I believe this involves 'porting' the barrel, many people don't like a ported barrel.

Different strokes for different folks. It good to have options…and porting is not required.

Only one box left right now. Of the 3 inch magnum Black Magic. Ya have to keep checking back for when they get more in stock. I cant even remember how many boxes I ordered , may have been over 20, and another guy I told ordered a bunch too.

I guess I got the last one. Picked up some 2.75 magnums along with that. Brennekes on the waaaaaaay.

To give you a perspective: I grew up in Eastern Europe and all I could shoot as a kid (and mostly everybody was shooting due to regulations) was smooth bore single/double shotguns with slugs for boar/other big game and birdshot for birds/rabbits. There was no word for slug in my country- everyone would just use Brenneke instead, the way Xerox is being used for copier. Nobody was questioning the effectiveness of the Brennekes (or Brenneke type slugs) for boar/bear but nobody was using soft Foster type slugs either...
