7mm mag with bullet in the 170+ grain.
Surely a modern Glock would be better than an antique '06 to stop a bear?
Maybe a 10mm with a 15 shot clip.
Maybe so. Just not sure what the best bear defense gun is.
Gee, maybe there aught to be a thread on this topic.![]()
A very good gunsmith I know told me many years ago that there was more North American big game taken with a 30-30 than probably any other cartridge and that from what he could tell Moose hadn't gotten any tougher to kill since the introduction of that cartridge. Any standard legal calibre will do the job just fine with a properly placed shot. You sure don't need a howitzer for a Moose.
.257 Weatherby. Speed and shock over slow and heavy. It's worked on 4 so far.
Here in Canada, I would think the .303 probably has a slight edge in the number of critters killed.
Slow and heavy for sure.
200g .308" are good
Sure speed kills. But it also ruins meat.
Years ago I read a quote/saying went something like "more game has been shot in the world with the 303 British than any other cartridge" but it went on to say "more game was wounded by the 303 than any other cartridge".
