Hello hunters, this was the first weekend of moose hunting in zone 1 where I live and after only an hour waiting in the tree stand I got a shot at a 3 year old buck at 125 feet :dancingbanana:

I aimed with my 30-06 165gr TSX ammo and missed three times!! I was aiming behind the leg at about 3 inches from the bottom (first moose hunting ever and was sure it was the place to aim).

So basically after finding the moose run away and finding absolutely no blood/hair nothing I had to accept that I totally missed a huge target :( while when sighting the rifle I shot at 5/8 from 300 feet.

Now my question is how did I miss ?? My 06 is set for 600 feet bullseye and so I aimed a bit low and expected the bullet to go a few inchers higher not lower..

I shot from about 30 feet from ground level where the moose was, could it have made the difference ?

Please help, I am off hunting today bt will go for the rest of the week to finish what I started.

gonna hunt from a stand, practice from one. Take shots you can make.
Be very careful if your new to elevated stands, in many areas/ways..

The plus side, you see more game if setup in the best area poss. Don't be anchored to that spot cause of the time spent getting it ready.
If no game show up , check around...A high stand may take your scent 200 meters before touching down, or maybe just a few meters depending on location. Be safe , and have fun.:D

Blargon, yes I now kow I should have lol but it was my first moose sighting ever.. and the heart goes 200 pulses/minute, it was like shooting blank it was odd, and the moose turned and tried to understand what was making so much noise up there haha damn I will remember this time my whole life, should have been the hunt of a lifetime, oh well!

On the plus side Im happy I did not injure it at all, Im sure it did go below him :(

still 6 days to go fortunately!

Just a thought......but have you taken a shot at a target since the moose incident......you never know......the scope may be pooched......just nice to take the variable out of it.....you never did say whether you were using iron sights or a scope.

Im using a Bushnell 3200 scope 3-9x

There is no range around here and I cant shot since I would disturb all hunters around but I did remove the bolt and checked through the barrel and found the scope to be aligned properly..

Nervousness and poor aiming target was the culprit I guess, next time I will go higher..
