More 858 questions from a newbie

Just signed up!! This forum is fantastic! Lots of great people with great info. Just got back into the sport after a few years of trying other things.
Purchased an 858 tactical and want a holosight on it. Looks like everyone is scrambling to find a mounting solution. Here is where I need help:
I have a master machinist from the old country with 25 years of experience, a nice block of aluminum, some pics, an 858 and a holosight ... How about I just hand it all over to the man and let him build me a mount!
What techical issues do I need to be aware of? I was thinking that the side mount is the best from what all of you have said (rails are too much $$). What do I need to pass on to this gentleman in terms of where to mount and what NOT to do. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
 
If you are going the side mount way, you would be better off just buying an AK47 mounting plate and putting that on the side o the rifle.
 
If the AK mount fits .. then that is the way to go for sure. I wasn't sure if it would. Do you have any recommendations in terms of which AK mount to purchase and from where?

If it fit's is what I was thinking:) I just recieved my 858 package this morning and am well pleased. First thing I looked at was the side of the reciever to see if it would be easy to mount a side rail. The only thing that makes me wonder if an AK side mount would fit is that the reciever is not flat, it may well be fine but I'm not sure.
This place has a good variety of mounts for AK's, it would probably we worth giving them a call.

They probably will not want to send a mount to Canada, but where there is a will there is a way.

LOL!! .. I am still using my dad's expressions! I feel that most European countries where tradesmen can begin to apprentice at 16 are USUALLY better at what they do .. in this case, the "old country" is Scotland.

EOTECH has an AK adaptor that fits on the rear sight .. they say on their site to contact them for other mounting solutions. Might be worth a try too, no?

I think there are some companies that carry AK mounts up here .. just have to find them.

I just took a look at the EOTECH website, their stuff costs an arm and a leg.

I will make a couple of calls tomorrow after I have had some fun with my new toy.

I know Scotland really well, I lived in Aberdeenshire for ages. Are you a Canadian Jock wanabee or the real thing :confused:


PS I have a thing with a little hole in that is threaded which screws on the muzzle,any idea what it's for ? It's not the protector that is for protecting the bore when cleaning, though I have one of those too.

according to your description it is part used for training purposes - thanks that part the gun can have semiauto or fullauto function with training ammo /without projectile/.

there was a variant of this rifle in the Army with a side mount for IR sights. It was designated VZ58Pi.

The IR sight went on this rail. I saw 858 with a Picatini rail screwed in this place on the receiver and used to hold an optical sight.
It is good to keep it easy to remove for cleaning purposes but it is a possible way to do it.

Yes of course, that's what it is alright a blank firing adapter.

I think a side mount like that is the only way to go. I have seen pics of red dots mounted on a the front hand guard but I am sure it is not stable enough, mine is not for sure.
 
the only serious problem at this time is the lack of a mount, either on the front handguard, or some where near the breach.

blank firing adapter is obligatory part of army cleaning kit for Vz. 58 in Czech and Slovak armies. It is also part of sets in gunshops in Czech republic.

I agree .. the problem is still the mount itself. The location you guys have identified looks solid and I hope will work. Gonna print it off and see what my machinist friend can think of .. will keep all of you posted.
I hear alot of complaints about low sights and bruised cheeks .. wondering if I should have the mount brought up and over the top of the rifle .. and up about an inch and a half? Any thoughts?
 
I think I have struck gold. Puropse built mounts for the CZ 858. Side mount kit $65 US, and barrel mount kit $ 63US. I wanted to post pics but the image thing seems to be down, I will try later.

Please be patient and all will be revealed. I am at present exchanging emails with this bloke and I don't want to do anything to upset the apple cart just yet. He is into firearms himself and has an 858, he just told me......................... "Plus soon I will have a "fitting" part. or "intermediate" part, which allow to change the original stock to AR15 style stock"

If you don't like the barrel mount but want the mounting rail option there is a, well this is from his email........

"I have another mount , which is two weaver rails with all accessories (two counter parts with screws), which can be mounted on the lower forend (below the gas piston) from left and right side (for say, tactical flashlight, laser..)"

$ 27.50 US


I am in the process of finding out how to get orders paid for and processed when I have all the details I will post them.
