I just talked to some guys I go hunting with up at my camp and they said mnr came by to check the camp ( license guns ect ). This year I did not do any hunting and a little fishing I was checked twice by mnr and once by opp on lake nipissing considering I only go a half dozen times a year this seems like a lot to me. A few years ago I never seen mnr or opp they seem to be harassing hunters fisherman a lot more recently does anyone else notice this or could it be only in my area.

I have a feeling the province being it debt hundreds of billions of dollars and civil servant making six figures are trying to justify ther huge wage.Imo.

You have issues...... it's evident in your posts..... it's evident in your terminology in said posts...... ie we hunt with "high powered guns"......

You also seem to be setting a record for game warden checks...... I have been hunting for 25 years and have been checked once..... but, of course, you don't share your location......

Pretty common to run into a RIDE program at Nipissing corners in the winter checking the Friday night traffic of guys from the city starting their party at the ice bungalow on the trip up.
Lake Nipissing has some pretty limited rules now for keeping walleye. Don't be surprised if CO's blow into your ice fishing setup with dog to sniff for hidden fish in the snow outside the slot size. Unattended lines and over two lines each will cost you a fine for sure.

Excuse me ...... Your negative comments and energy is not appreciated sir..... I am simply making a statement that I am noticing a lot more interaction with civil servants recently in my hunting fishing areas where in the past it was basically never. I am curious if others have had a similar experience. If you do not like my posts you do not have to read and please do not contribute . My hunting fishing camp is area is 48 ontario near north bay I have mentioned it numerous times if you ever take your head out of you ass Troll.

True enough lake nipissing is a disaster with there ever changing regulations I think it's only one walleye now.

If you & your group of friends are being checked more frequently now than in the past I would suspect that someone in your group has done something to warrant the increased attention. Even if your nose is clean as an angel you will be judged by the company you keep.

I have been checked once while hunting and twice while fishing by the MNR - a couple times by the OPP while fishing on the Ottawa river (but they were checking for boating licence, safety gear, drinking/boating) - and that's in more than 45 years of hunting/fishing.

The one time hunting was on Ducks Unlimited property near Ottawa. MNR dude checked to see if we were using steel shot (this was back about 17 or 18 years ago within a year or two of the lead ban).

Once ice fishing on an Eastern Ontario back lake the MNR on an ATV on the ice checked licences and made sure we weren't running too many lines.

The "best" check came on a back lake in Algonquin park. A couple of us had portaged five days deep into the park. We were on a small lake with a canoe when a seaplane landed and made it's way over to our canoe. The MNR Dude asked to see our fishing licences.

That's it for me - I have only seen one MNR (person) in the last six hunting seasons out actually doing something. That was female officer at a coffee shop during the gun (deer) a couple years back.

Ha! Love it! Obviously not too small a lake..at least enough to get air-born again.

I tend to stay out of the bush on the weekends and especially opening weekend for moose and pickerel. Cuts down on the amount of stops. That being said, I've been checked once in the last few years and all the game warden was interested in was that I didn't have a rifle with me (all big game seasons were closed by this point). I think it helped that I saw him coming a mile away and stopped, took out all my licenses, made sure the action of my 10/22 was wide open and had a coffee and a smoke while waiting for him to catch up so he could check me out. He knew he was dealing with an honest and straight forward person before he even got out of his truck and told me so.

Funny you call being checked by the mnr or opp " harassed "

I have only been hunting for 3 years and I saw my first MNR warden this year. Came into our camp and asked to see the usual. Nice young guy, even gave my buddy a pass on his orange vest...didn't wrap completely around his body. If we were mouthy arseholes I am sure he would have been fined.

We even got some patches!! Laugh2

I think you need to look in the mirror a little closer to see the definition of a cgn troll. Being checked on Nipissing is quite common. Having lived in North Bay for 30+ years of my adult life we knew the times of year to expect MNR & OPP activity. Usually it was during peak fishing, deer and moose season time that drew the tourists from southern ontario.

What's the big deal about being checked by the fish cops? Not a problem if you are the right side of the laws and you deserve what you get if you aren't.

I have a couple of observations.

When I started hunting, it was normal to see, and get checked by, the COs. I would probably encounter them 2 or 3 times pre season while hunting in various spots. They would visit the area I moose hunt in during moose season and sometimes I would see them during deer season or bird hunting as well. Mostly they were just doing routine checks for licenses and regulation compliance. Due presumably to budget cuts, there were several years where I rarely saw them. I suspect that they have realized that their lack of time in the field was resulting in more widespread abuse of game and fish laws. So maybe the province has stopped siphoning off the dollars from fish and game licenses into general revenue and is spending it on fish and game programs (such as enforcement) where it belongs.

I would guess that if you or your buddies are seeing the COs a lot, then there have likely been problems in your area and some of your encounters related to active investigations. Maybe there have been complaints made against members of your camp or maybe they are trying to identify unknown offenders in your area. If you're not breaking the law you will probably just have to show your license and wait a couple of minutes while they check you for record and warrants.

Have you jumped to conclusions that they all make 6 figure incomes or have you actually taken their names and looked them up in the 'sunshine list'?
