So how long does a shipment usually sit here in Canada before customs releases it?

Just received paperwork, Soviet shipment on board in Rotterdam.

Normally, no more than three weeks transit time from port to port (really more like 14 days if you manage to hit the booking cut-offs for the sailing dates). Customs clearance time is quick (next day) unless it's called for examination. (I imagine that for this commodity, it's a given). John would know better than me on this, but for other commodities called for examination, it's a couple or few days or less.
