..."I did a search here and one thread says it is a gov't requirement, but I've bought powder before, and never been asked to sign my name for it....

The last time I bought powder and primers, I think I had to show my firearms licence but I don't recall having to sign anything. OTOH, "I can't remember the last time I had a memory lapse."

Interesting as i got a couple boxes (1000's) of small and large pistol Federal primers through my local sporting goods store. Sure i'll get used to it. I never said it was the retailers fault :mad: The NOT offering an alternative brand of primers is where the burn comes from.

There is no alternative to order! eg. There are no large rifle primers in all of southern Alberta except a few remington brand that no one wants. Not because WSS or Russels did not order them, but because they just are not immediatley available for the reason given. Sure some ma and pa operation may not be sold out so praise the lord!

Just because someone bought powder without being logged in does not mean it was legal or proper procedure. Ammo requires a POL or PAL. Powder reguired photo id and address to be logged. Also requires a signature. Nothing to do with firearms law. Primers or other loading components have no requirements other than payment. Don't ragg on clerks for doing what is legally required.

Can't just trash the store.. it's the individual staff who provide the service. Saskatoon is nearly always good (or actually great!) (eg at least 1 if not 2 messages on the phone if you don't answer), friendly staff, etc. Product shortages are not just a WSS issue,, even Higginson is having trouble getting powder \ primers..

Powder sales legally require a photoID and address to be logged? Is that in a specific province or for powder over a certain weight? Cause I've never had to provide this information.

I suppose i should have mentioned that the sporting goods store owner phoned his supplier who promptly said nope on the CCI, BUTi do have some federal, he shipped them out that day.

The follow is from:
CANADIAN REGULATIONS FOR PROPELLANT EXPLOSIVES AND SPORTING
AMMUNITION
Which can be found at:
http://www.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/mms/explosif/pdf/bull8_e.pdf

RECORDS OF SALES
26. All licensed vendors of propellants must maintain the following information records regarding
sales:
a) the name and address of the purchaser;
b) the date of the sale(s) transaction;
c) the brand of propellant;
d) the size of container(s); and
e) the quantity of propellant sold.

Further to the above, I have seen written instructions from this agency requiring the sales person make the entry and require photo and address ID.
When customers were allowed to complete the information themselves many wrote their name as Osama bin Laden from none of your f**king business afganastooon. etc. The sales person needs to attend to this matter, or the consequences could be the retail outlet not being licenced to sell gun powder. None of us want that?

Thanks Covey Ridge. Looks like WSS was just doing their job. Doesn't mean I'll buy from them, though.

The supplier was willing to ship an individual order? The sporting good store would do well to take all that supplier has:D The supplier that the larger stores deal with have little to send.

Who cares if WS or any other vendor is recording useless confidential information. As long as I get my powder, primers or loaded ammo I could care less. The entire firearms act and all accompanying legislation is retarded.

I find the best gun shops in the interior are in Merritt, Salmon Arm, Vernon and Kelowna.

WSS in Kamloops and the Kamloops Powder Keg are both aweful.

I only know southern Alberta. My favorites are Russells, WSS, and Crappy Tire Calgary, in that order. My least favorite are Pro Line Shooters 2 and TSE.

He didnt even offer a suggestion of another primer brand, thats the part that burns my ass.

..............so you would have been willing to buy another brand and start load development all over again??? You can't just change primers and think your load will be the same.

Winny,
once in a while you make a really good point. It is not any salesman's job to suggest a substitution for any component in a reload recipe:D

I can see the thread now! I went to that dumb assed store and asked for CCI primers and that dumb assed guy who did not know anything suggested ### brand and I blew up my gun.:confused: That dumb assed salesman doesn't know anything about loading. :mad::eek::runaway::dancingbanana::yingyang:;)

You've got a point CR! It's pretty clear who is responsible when reloading shells and it is plain silly to blame someone else for things one is reponsible for oneself. Lord knows there is enough information floating around various websites and in reloading books to look stuff up and make an informed choice, unless one is completely lazy or obtuse.

Yes and no......his supplier was selling a box of 1000 large/small pistol federal primers for $49 bux a box. Seemed steep at the time, but if there be a shortage THAT bad in Canada then .........DOH!!!! :(

Maybe i should have been more clear here..... im a brand spanking new reloader here. So as you say changing primers will change my load.....i never had any from the start so there is no changing.
