More WSS Funnies

Heard so many bad stories about Wholesale sports these days so when I wanted some bullets I phoned Russell sports. A guy picked up the phone and I told him I wanted to order some stuff, he said to me, and I'm not lying

" Do you mind calling back tomorrow, we're short staffed and I'm real busy"

I didn't know that my money was not worth as much as some guy standing at the counter fondling scopes. Least he was guaranteed to sell something to me, it WAS the order line.... wasn't phoning to check out his merchandise I was phoning to buy stuff.

So I phoned Wholesale sports, talked to a real nice guy, he took my order and I got it shipped greyhound, it was in my hands in less than 48 hours, everything was there and no screw-ups. Thats $300 bucks that Russells ain't going to see, and maybe none of my business.

I have dealt with dinks everywhere i've shopped. When i bought my 280 at russels, the guy tried telling me Ruger's were ####, and that i wanted a remington. When a guy comes in, obviously knows what he is talking about and is just buying, not shopping you DONT sell him on something else.

Another time, at backcountry sports in Red Deer, i had a Mossberg 20 ga on layaway, and went in at about 8:30 PM to finish paying and pick it up. I went to the same counter prick that sold me the gun and asked, out of courtesy, if it was too late to do a transfer. He said "Yeah, i'd say so buddy, it's like quarter to nine, the CFC has been closed for almost 4 hours" I agreed, begrudginly, and left a little hot, knowing that wasn't the case but this prick was too lazy to do a transfer that close to closing. I went back in the next day, and some kid registered me online right quick, and walked me to the till with the shotty. Apparently no effort was required, but that was still to much for the original pecker.

I could keep going on about old guys that assume and treat me as if i am dumb because i am young, but those guys usually get humbled when the youngin teaches them a few things.

A while back when picking up supplies at WSS, I had almost everything I needed in front of me which took almost an hour. I asked the guy helping me for two blued sets of quick release sling swivels, he told me to go and see the guys in the fishing department, twice :bangHead:

Another memory from a few years back. I was standing in line at WSS waiting for service, listening to an employee and a customer chat about gun writers. The employee said that he had read a good article written by Elmer Kieth just a few weeks ago(don't remember the topic). The customer said that Elmer had been dead for over 20 years. The employee looked stunned and then said "How could he be when he was still writing for a popular gun magazine? I just read the article a few weeks ago ya know..."

And no Ted, I am not making it up  :D

Fun times, fun times...

I reload for a number of guys. They buy the components, and I stick them together. I tell them that the benefit to reloaded ammunition is consistency, NOT hot loads. I always have their rifles when I start to load for them to check OAL and function, and then I keep a dummy round with their name on it, and I NEVER give them max loads. If someone wants me to reload for them because I can "put some more powder in the case" I tell them the cost of the box of ammo is about half as much again as for factory loads. That usually runs them off. :)

Whether rifle, handgun or shotgun, all too often somebody is having difficulties at the Club/range with reloaded ammunition someone else
supplied.

And it's NEVER the gun owner's fault, it's ALWAYS the reloader !
( and whether it is or not, that's the way it shakes out ! ) :slap:

Apparently, not all reloaders are as skilled or conscientous as others.

Some of them are pretty stupid. I ordered some danners and they messed up on my phone number to contact me. I went into the store and they had them in but couldnt contact me. go figure.

I'm not worried. I borrowed his rifle for a few weeks and taylored the loads specifically to his firearm. pretty new Sako 75 SS Mmmmmmm

...........I was going to ask if you ever tailored the loads while in possesion of the rifle. Nuff said!!!

pretty hard to get optimal OAL without the rifle. or work a load for best accuracy. I don;t give a #### about velocity. I just want to see tight little groups :D

I posted a while ago about a gun counter guy at WSS selling a fellow 38 Super ammo to shoot in his 357mag revolver.

I was in WSS the other day, and that same gun counter guy now had 'Hunting Manager' on his name tag...

Face it, working at WSS or the likes is not going to provide you with a huge paycheque. So, I've always figured that the gun counter salesman job was suited for a retired guy who's just wanting to improve on his pension cheque somewhat and that this person should be somewhat experienced in firearms. But I do see a lot of younger, cocky full of #### guys wanting to strutt their limited knowledge. It's kinda like drawing from the gene pool, sometimes all that is left is retards....:D

Just FYI, Russells is owned by WSS, and for quite awhile now. And at least the guy was honest with you (the fact that nearly every retailer in Calgary is so short staffed they can hardly stay in business may have something to do with it). And it just so happens that WSS has a room with 5 people in it waiting for your phone call to order stuff. These things make a difference.
But at the same time I have had some of the biggest dips#$ts at both places give me huge lines of BS. I once had a tool at WSS tell me to take FG black powder and grind it through strom door screen ot make FFFG.(blew my face up with black once, and if I do it again, I hope it kills me). I also had a fella that works at Russells (he used to work at Canuky T on Mac. Tr.) tell me about his magic Mossberg 7mm Rem Mag that only dropped 2" at 500yds and printed groups at that range half the length of his pinky. I called bull#### gave the guy a tongue lashing about ballistic and magic. A few of the guys that work there, started laughing so hard they were crying.
But the fella that said this before was right;they pay their top end experienced guys $15/hr. What are they paying the numpties?.

A friend of mine was going to WSS to pick up some stuff and I asked him to get me some .338 210gr. Barnes TSX.

The guys at the counter told him I must have wrote down the wrong bullet weight, and that I must have meant the 225gr.'s because they would be better. Not know much about reloading my friend came home without anything because he wasn't sure. :bangHead:

I told him next time don't talk to them just get the goods.

There was another fellow who tried to show me that the "plastic stock" was not as good as a wood stock because he could pull it away from the barrel. "Really?", I said, upon which he grabbed the barrel and pulled with all his might on the forestock. It was at least a good 1/2 inch away from the barrel. So I said, "I see:rolleyes:" what a douche.
