Mosin family pics - let's see yours!

I seem to recall that there is one more CGN out there that has a M24 SIG stepped barrel, so there are at least 3 in Canada


Oh and just to let you know the shop that I bought it from had no ideal what it was :rolleyes: and I got it for the same price as their other M91's :D $150 :eek: :dancingbanana:
 
Sounds like a great deal. New purchase, or have you had it a while? Counterbored? Bore condition? Mine's not counterbored, but the bore is on the frosty side. Also my rifle's finish looks more worn than yours and is also Christmas Tree marked. I still have the original modified M91 stock which has seen alot of repair work over the years. Yours looks to have been restocked during the Winter or Continuation wars with a wartime round finger-jointed stock. It's possible (probable?) that it was refurbed and reblued at that time as well which would account for the high level of finish on the metal. Most unrefurbed M24's I see are like mine: almost in the white from carry wear.

Nice to see yours also retains the early front band retention bolt in the nose.

These ARE rare birds here in Canada it seems... now if only I could find an M28/30 and a Tikka M91/30 to round things out... (and an M1907 carbine, M91 RV, M27 cavalry carbine, etc... YEAH RIGHT.)
 
I'll have to pull it out again soon for some range time, but I dont think its counter bored even thought it has the christmass tree, But I'll have to check again.

Its built on a 1904 Tula reciever but the bolt, trigger and trigger guard are Izhevsk.

What a great little Tikka M30. Most are minty because very few were finished on time to see service in WW2, so most went straight to war reserve (the M39 was the standard issue rifle at the time). That's actually a model I don't have yet - let me know if you grow tired of it ;)

In the meantime I found time tonight to photograph one of my recent extra special finds.

Here's a rare 1944 Tula M44 which is doubly rare since it also has a hex receiver (!). Tula only made M44's for a very short time in 1944 and produced fewer than 100,000 of these carbines (compared to 7.66 million made at Izhevsk). VERY few of those 100,000 would have had hex receivers. It's not known why some hex's were used, but it can be reasonably guessed that older receivers from irreperably damaged pre-1936 rifles were used at Tula as a stopgap to hit production targets from time to time. This one has only a Tula star and 1944 on the underside of the tang, so it's impossible to tell what the receiver's history is/was before Tula remarked it in 1944.

In any event, this is a pretty rare Soviet Mosin. Did I mention non-import marked, not counterbored and the bore is perfect?

Can't remember if I saw it here on the EE or at another forum but someone was recently selling a crappy, run of the mill M91 for about $175 - $200 if I remember correctly.

I passed because of what it was, then after it was sold, saw the bayonet. It was an early Mosin bayonet like yours. What do they typically go for in Canada?
 
The last I saw at collector's source was $300. They usually got for $200-250 on e-pay, the once or twice a year that they show up there ;)

That being said, this one is for sale in the EE at the moment...
