Ok, so my dad got this mosin nagant given to him, and he wants to clean it up and take it to the range, but we can't find a caliber marking anywhere on it. We even took off the stock and looked at the bottom of the barrel but there are no markings for caliber, all we can find is the date (1943) and few other numbers/letters.
Were they all the same caliber during WWII?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I just don't know much about them.
Any help would be appreciated.:)

google would have solved your mystery quickly.

But an unaltered mosin nagant would be 762x54R.

Most military arms of that era are not marked with caliber.

Tons of surplus ammo on the market right now, as well as many good quality commercial cartridges available. Lots of these old Mosins shoot really well.

The only other exemptions would be Polish Conversions to 7.92x57 Mauser (8mm Mauser) or Austrian WW I conversion to 8mm x 50 Manlicher. However if the rifle is dated 1943 it can only by 7.62x54 Rimmed Russian.
