Hey Guys,
It seems that there's a lot of really nice Mosin-Nagants for sale in the Equipment Exchange forum -- I've not visited in a while -- has there ever been a shortage of nice Mosin-Nagants? Sheesh!
Anyway, I like to hunt with my milsurps (Lee-Enfield something or other, Grandpa bubba'd it; Mauser K98 Yugo) and I've just converted my two brothers-in-law to muley hunting. Plus, they're pumped about using milsurps too. The one would go for a Mosin-Nagant for sure (plays the Russians in Axis & Allies), the other has more money and I'm gonna try to get him to buy a Garand from P&P or something.
So the question:
A second question: assuming that the only way to mount a (non-scout type) scope on a Mosin-Nagant is to do horrible things to an otherwise perfectly good rifle, which model would be the least valuable, and thus the least painful to bubba-ize? Some post-war, I dunno, Chinese copy or something? I obviously have no clue. And I can't believe I'm even asking this. Please forgive me.

So the question:
Can you put a normal eye-relief scope on a Mosin-Nagant without committing a sin against milsurps?
The brother-in-law apparently wants a scope (we don't do much bush-hunting -- mostly wide open spaces in southeastern Alberta), and I don't know what kind of butchering would have to be done in order to mount one on a Mosin-Nagant. I h'aint ne'er handled one before. I do know that Iron Elite has a nice cantilever mount for K98s that won't wreck the rifle, but is there a need -- let alone a source -- for something similar on Mosin-Nagants?A second question: assuming that the only way to mount a (non-scout type) scope on a Mosin-Nagant is to do horrible things to an otherwise perfectly good rifle, which model would be the least valuable, and thus the least painful to bubba-ize?
