Hmm. Kind of like asking, "Should I get a 1985 Suzuki GS1150, or a 1984 Yamaha V-Max".
(Sorry, sometimes my different passions intersect. Next analogy, I'll use vintage chainsaws).
The two Mosins are different, both in historical aspect and in feel when using them at the range. Personally, I'd say get both, they are dirt cheap these days, and you'll be able to pick which one you like better each day you head out to the range.
I like the pre-WW2 (ok, let's say turn of the previous century) engineering of the 91/30, and I also appreciate the "Geez, we don't need them tio be that long, do we?" breakthrough of the M44. Be prepared to use some Rub A535 when shooting the M44 though. (Well sometimes the recoil is said to be somewhat Testosterone-worthy, try it for yourself)
