Mosin Nagant Sporter Project

Yeah , normally I don't side with the Hard-liners because I think milsurps are meant to be shot not kept in a shadow box with medals. But maybe actively asking how to Bubba one is a bit of a stretch. I don't know where I'd post the question but perhaps in Milsurp is kind of trolling.
If it's already stripped then ask away; hardliners be damned.
Even asking to mount a scope is OK by me, but how to sporter one... trolling
IMO

I disagree

this is a milsurp forum nowhere does it say No talking about modding milsurps, no sporterising. What it does say is "Milsurp Old stuff buried in the backyard since WW1 and WW2".

it would most likely get moved here anyway. There is no need for skirsons and rattus to come down on folks for enjoying this hobby as they see fit. The title of this post made it very clear what was to go on. If these two don't like the subject then the polite thing to do is A) not read it or B) read it and not comment. there doesn't need to be more rules just more courtesy and tolerence for differing views. If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing. simple easy no problem.

There's no need for trolls like MG4201 encouraging destruction of milsurps just to egg us on. These posts need a place of their own. I may be wrong but I don't feel they should be welcome here.

i would agree. Like going to a car show and asking how to best turn them into scrap metal.....

You know what skirsons

I will express myself in any way that I see fit. If someone asks for help in doing a project and i can help I will. That is what seperates me, someone who contriubutes in a positive way to the free exchange of ideas. From you a troll who only speaks up to critcise people who have different ideas from yours. go and look up troll, wikipedia probably has an actual picture of you by now. recce21 unless you are the forum owner, green tips you have no say in who is welcome where. Skirsons don't flatter yourself, I don't help people to "egg you on". I help people because it is my nature. to paraphrase an old song "you're so vain you probably think this song is about you don't you?". and last people with your my way or the highway attitude are part of the reason it is so hard to bring new people in to the shooting sports.

part of my job is taking a drill press to a longbranch no 4 or a no 7 and drilling a hole into the chamber. then i take a tapered pin and drive that into the breech. then it gets sent to the mat techs for a spot of weld. i hate it but its the job. these rifles are the lucky ones, alot more are heading to the smelter.

What ranges are you hunting at? I was thinking of scoping my Mosin, but where I live shots are often close enough for open sights. There are scout mounts availble for reasonable prices, also PU 3.5 power side mount scopes like I bought.

The following are images representing my facial expressions and emotions as I read your post.

Now I'm going to go lay down.

It is not a solution

Any bolt body he gets will have come from a rifle so what is the difference. hey have you noticed The OP has stopped posting? Congratulations another new shooter driven away to golf or something else where he will be encouraged instead of attacked. Well done, when there is no one left to fight for our gun rights and the RCMP come to your house and sieze everything you have collected you can look back and know that it was ALL OF YOU who drove all of the new people away and made it possible. Enjoy whatever hobby the liberal overlords will allow you in the future maybe basket weaving or embroidery.

It's not like he's going to butcher a minty, matching, unfired one-of-a-kind specimen that was used by imperial guards while defending Tsar's palace from the red deluge???

I'd sure like to find an unmolested No1 MkIII* but they seem to be pretty rare these days...

That is some good thinkin' recce 21

driving new shooters off one at a time. if you drive off all the new shooters and the old shooters are dying who do you think will be left to protect shooting from the liberals?. If you drive off enough shooters then wendy and holland will send you a christmas card thanking you for destoying the firearms heritage in Canada. But think of all the milsurps you will have saved so that they can be smelted in mint condition when we are not allowed to own them anymore because there was no one left to fight. You sir are a true hero well done.

Conversely, since we're descending into hyperbole, when you bubba a milsurp you destroy its historical value, which in the end may be the only thing that saves it from the crusher. Historical pieces have been diverted to museums before.

What Bubba is doing is taking away the last line of defense for these old girls. After bubba is through, they're just sawed off guns likely to fall into the wrong hands.

LOL! If all it takes for a shooter to quit is a thread on CGN then someone needs to develop some greater intestinal fortitude. Bubba is as bad for firearms as the gun grabbers in my humble Internet opinion. I don't think the OP has been scared off from shooting, I think rather that he lives in a world outside of CGN and doesn't give two s**** about the petty back and forth Internet brawls on here.

Don't butcher a classic. If your hurtin for a project, get a Stevens 200, bed it with JB weld, and spray it Krylon or boxliner. Better results, better shooter, and you can reliably get ammo for it.
