Mosin Nagants=brutal recoil?

On one of the warmer days, I decided to shoot my 91/30 with a tank top on.

Well, 50 rounds + metal butt plate + bare shoulder = OUCH!

But hey, I lived to speak about it, so who cares?

I think the major thing that leads to a perception that the carbine length critters have more recoil is the enormous increase in SOUND, CONCUSSION through the atmosphere, and MUZZLE FLASH, all of which tend to put the fear of God into less experienced shooters.... No matter how minor the increase in actual felt recoil may be.

Earplugs AND muffs certainly helped my wife get comfy with .303, which she couldn't stand before I figured out how sensitive she was to the noise...

Peep sight

Sounds like a rumor started by a Mauser lover, or an Enfield believer.
As far as I know, they're right up there with the Enfield and Mauser for accuracy.
In fact, I'm dreaming of a peep sight design that could fit the M-91s. With all that sight plane, we could easily get the same accuracy than the famed Ross M-10s.
:D
PP.

PP - Lyman made a peep sight for Mannlicher Schoenauers that allowed the windage arm to pivot back and forth every time the bolt was cycled. Otherwise an aperture sight would have to be foreward of the bolt handle.

If you can get the rear sight base off, you can mount a scope to the dovetail using rimfire rings. Or so I have been told, I have hever been able to get the damm sight off.

Not quite true. there are no dovetails under their. I saw a write-up where a guy had some rails welded on. The best option IMHO is darrel harrison's mount.

As you can see I've done almost everything you can to bubba this barreled action without making it forever. The result however has been a really fun to shoot, easy to use and accurate rifle. I plan to bed the action next. I was gonna put a muzzle brake on but I'm starting to reconsider. I've actually been thinking about getting a heavier barrel put on but that will be a little further down the road.

That's an M44 or M38 you worked on there. The sight attaches differently. On an M91 long rifle (NOT a 91.30), there IS a dovetail you *could* devise rings for, but there's no cross slot so there might be front to back movement unless you mill weaver slots into said dovetail.

i weigh in and around 150lbs, and i come out unscathed. i dont find that my m-44 is much heaver in recoil than m91. just suck it up, i guess.
