Mosin Scope Mount

I'll take this one folks, as I have asked it a few times myself ;)

To summarize:

If you want to scope a mosin, the easiest and least intrusive way is to buy one of the PU repro sniper rifles already for sale. That way you don't have to drill holes in another rifle and destroy it's "original" collector value. Yes - it's a Mosin - but the same was said for the Lee Enfield's for sale in the barrels at Canadian tire ;)
They are quite affordable right now, and westrifle has some for sale as I type this.

If you don't want to go that route, you can always buy the repro mounts and scopes, both PU and apparently PE/PEM scopes eventually, and have someone who knows what they are doing do the install. At least this way you are installing a reproduction of equipment that may have been used on your rifle, depending on the year of manufacture.

A no-gunsmith option is available for scout scope mounting. This replaces the rear sight leaf and requires a long eye relief scope. Not a popular option from what I have seen, but people have done it, and some people like it.

And last but not least, westrifle does offer some drill and tap mounts that will allow the mounting of a modern scope to your mosin.

Hope that helps.

For what it's worth, I too wanted to mount modern optics to my mosin. I eventually got the PU sniper repro from westrifle and it has quickly become my all time fave rifle.

Good luck and enjoy the mosin!

I have a scout mount and would not reccomend it too much play in it no matter how well you fit it.

what I would do now, is remove the rear sight(drive out it's pins) underneath is a 3/8th dovetail which you can mount tall 3/8" rings too. That seems alot more sturdy. Still a scout mount but more solid.

That Brass Stacker looks good! I'm getting one.

To save evryone the trouble I called Brass-Stacker. They ship that scope mount directly to Canada. Shipping is 15$ :) Ordered mine. I'm tired of my sight replacement rail.

Their checkout doesn't allow you to overide the free shipping so contact them and they will send you a (FRAUD ALERT) invoice or call and use a credit card.

Should be a solid as the stock sight. As long as the bolts say tight. Fyi thecompany replied within minutes amd have been really good to work with so far. I ordred one.

Please, let us know if you are happy with it. I am also interested in... Thanks.

The Darrell mount is like 70-90$ + shipping (or it was when I last looked), set screws and pins not sure how this will compare. I think bolts if proper sized going through the sight base will be strong overall.
The S&K mount(with weaver base) is identical o what I'm using know (probably a knock off of it) not a fan. I think the S&K is also 70$ or so.

I'm looking forward to trying it. I think it's downside will be how high it locates the scope.

It will do until I decide if I want to spend cash on a rock solid industries mount.

This mount when well mounted is very sturdy, i had it on, zero it with the Sparc and after a 100 rounds of 180 gr, it is still perfect, no problems... JP.

I got my mount last week on thursday, That was super fast if you ask me :) So props to the company for that.

Looks good and really solid. I did not get a chance to install it yet since we just had a new baby :)

I'll try to get it mounted and to the range soon :D

I'm using one like Caramel posted right now, but I just recieved my new brass stacker and that's the one I'm going to try.

I'll take my rear sight off and check that 3/8" dovetail there. I'm thinking a set of Burris .22 Signature rings and/or an adapter for Picatinny rail option. Either way the added cost of red-dot or pistol scope is needed.

Rock solid is best because it keeps your optics low. I have a brass staker and after setting it up it's been rock solid. I'm not looking back or for anything better. The company is also stellar to deal with.

Brass stacker gets a positive from me.
