Looking to get back into lever action again, particularly in 30-30. Keeping my eyes open for the right Win 94 or JM Marlin but I’ve also noticed a couple Mossberg 464s for sale. Price point seems too good to be true. Is it?

Don’t hunt, strictly plinking. Any feedback appreciated, would hate to get stuck whatever the price.

I had one. It wasn't very accurate for me despite many ammo choices. I scoped it as well. Liked the feel in hand and look but the action was chunky and I got the occasional loading jam. Sold it and bought a Marlin 336. I think the difference was about 100$.

I got a lightly used one on a whim for a good price. Marinecoat

The lever safety took a bit of getting used to compared to my shotgun levers

I used irons and it came with really nice green and red fibers. Could hit the gong at 100

Any jamming or loading issues? Also, how was the fit and finish?

Try to avoid the "tactical" version, like the plaque!

I haven't had the chance to shoot one, but I did have one in my possession for a day and handled it extensively. The "ughh" factor of the plastic furniture and rails lasted about 2 minutes before I was chomping at the bit to try it out. Light, handy, and versatile, and it seemed tough to boot. I was disappointed I didn't get to use it at the time, and hope I get to, someday.

Is your suggestion to avoid it based on the "ughh" factor, or do you know of actual deficiencies with them?

I bought a new, plain-jane 464 back in '14 and the bugger shot great with Rem 170 gr ammo. Overall fit & finish was decent enough. The trigger had a longish 6+ lb pull but let-off was nice & crisp. These come with a tang safety & a lever safety which be bothersome to me. I'd like to get a fresh 464 walnut/pistol grip unit to have fun with.

Back in the 1970s I worked for a sporting goods wholesaler that sold quite a few Mossberg 472 lever actions in 3030, I worked as a shipper/receiver about half the 472s that were sold came back for warranty, I lost all interest in Mossberg centre fire rifles then and have heard nothing since to change my mind.

I have the 2019 SPX 464 no issues so far after 200 rds of various ammo Winchester, Remington, Hornady, Federal, 150/170 grain. Love the weight, balance, versatility, adjustability and best of all no wood to damage. I'm waiting for a Picatinny rail bridge to be made for it and plan to put a folding stock adapter on as well, also picked up a nice titanium brake for it. Plan to do a cerakote just haven't decided what color.

Sweet

Mossberg took on the original '94 design when Winchester's patent expired.
I've have a ZMB model for a number of years.
Great sights, highly adjustable LOP, smoothed out alot after lots of cycling over the years.
Currently it has a mag tube spring/follower failure. I may buy a cheap or busted one as a parts gun.

Bought a walnut straight grip one brand new about 10 years ago on a whim. Lots of 170gr down the tube and never any issues or broken parts. Very accurate - more accurate than my micro groove 336 in 30-30. The only downsides really are the bolt feels kinda clunky and the trigger isn't great, but definitely never had any feeding or extracting issues with all brands of ammo.

Haven’t had any issues with mine in the 8 years I’ve had it. Marinecote finish is nice and the stock Williams fire sights are great. It also happened to out-shoot my friends Henry lever haha.
He wasn’t pleased with that:). I’d post a picture but can’t figure out how
