Mossberg 4x4 7mm-08

Don't take this as a smart ass question, but when you took your PAL course, did the material not cover how to choose the appropriate ammunition for your firearm? I took the course many years ago, but it did cover cartridge designations, and how to identify them. Just wondering if the course has changed, or if the instructor simply did not teach that material.

Not taken that way at all, the course covered the material well. I bought the rifle for a very reasonable price, I just am/was not familiar at all with 7mm ammo. I was simply unsure if 7mm-08 was another name for/form of 7mm Rem Mag. I figured I would ask to be safer than sorry.

Where is the "RANT RANT???"

Are you sure about not having "thin skin?"

Don't bother with a Leupold on your Mossberg 4X4, that rifle was destined for a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn... a 3-9x40mm will serve you best... leave it on 3X until you need more and then adjust up.

That's about as much of a rant as I go on, I'm a pretty chilled out kind of guy. I posted while in a rather bad mood and now I'm reaping the consequences.
Thank you for the advice as well.

If the rifle is stamped 7mm-08, then the ammunition case heads should be stamped 7mm-08, and the label on the ammunition box should read 7mm-08. Most confusion comes from people not properly describing their cartridge, an example being people referring to the 7mm remmag as a 7mm.

This happens. Better to ask than have a KaBOOM. However be careful. You can't always trust gun store staff either. 308 Winchester has been sold to people looking for 308 Norma mag. A local Canadian Tire sold a guy 300 Winchester when he was looking for 300 Weatherby. Make sure you are putting the correct ammo in the rifle each time and only have the ammo for that rifle on the bench while shooting. This is why you need to be wearing your ppe at all times at the range.

I definitely didn't want my brand new Mossberg to explode in my face (or any for that matter)

Update!
Proper ammunition was ordered through a local shop, apparently it is a fairly uncommon cartridge these days. After some advice and some research of my own, I went with the Leupold VX-1 from Dante Sports. Should see all of my stuff pretty soon I would imagine. Thanks for everyone's help, hopefully I have permission by now to post a picture and I'll try to post one of it all together when I get it together.
