Mossberg 590A1 14" Canted Sights

Wow, thanks for sharing this. I took possession of one of these a few weeks back and it doesn't appear to have canted sights.

I will say that I was quite surprised by the really quick responses from Wolverine when I was looking to grab a replacement part on warranty. There are some definite quirks to the Mossberg warranty but I can find no fault in Wolverine's service.

I wish I could say this is rare, but honestly, I've never seen a straight front sight on a Mossberg yet. I've owned two. They both were canted. Promptly sold them and brought an 870 that TacOrd worked on.

I thought this might just be a case of them sending us Canucks factory seconds or something... so I did some Googling and found that this is all over the US forums too. Along with responses from Mossberg Warranty like "it's not canted enough to be covered under warranty", cosmetic issues aren't covered, etc.

I swear to god I have never been biased against Mossberg (till now I guess). I've always just got better deals/trades on 870s and just kindof ended up in that camp, but I've always been in love with the 590/590A1 and wanted another. But after this? Yeah I'll pass, thanks.

TFB posted a video from 2025 SHOT where the Mossberg rep claimed that iron sights on their newest iteration of 590A1 Professional will come pre-zeroed for Federal Tactical loads.

I think they just figured out it was cheaper this way than with proper QC.
They send out 100 guns with canted sights, 80 people either don't notice or just accept it. 20 people grumble about it, half of those take the time to write to Mossberg Warranty department, and 9 of those just fall for Mossberg's "warranty doesn't cover cosmetic issues and sights on a gun are cosmetic (LOL)" response. Maybe they warranty one guy's gun out of 100. And they've sent out 99 s**tty guns and gotten away with it and business goes on.

What you'd need is for popular gun bloggers with integrity to actually point out issues like this and say "hey, it is NOT OK to have a brand new gun arrive with a canted front sight and a rear sight factory adjusted to max travel to compensate" and give these guns a proper review. But they're too busy monetizing and getting free @%!$ from manufacturers and don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Not long ago the Province of Nova Scotia called for tenders for some 590A1 shotguns. Included was a requirement that the vendor would have an armorer conduct a pre-delivery quality control inspection on the shotguns (prior to the delivery), and that the vendor would provide an armorer (during the delivery and afterward) to remedy issues as they might arise.

That's interesting, cause they don't look adjustable at all?

not a big fan of fiber optic fronts either, besides just that they tend to eventually go their own way.

Update: I received my shotgun back from warranty with a new barrel. Wolverine was great to work with and communication was easy. A bit of a for Mossberg to send a new barrel from the US.

Did you try loosening the nut and twisting it? Mine came from factory just like that, and it was just that the mag tube nut was loose.

Its a 14" shotgun, 9_+%? of owners wouldn't care
for its purposes one is probably better off with a laser pointer instead of a red dot

but I get it, professionals work with precision all the time, most things in the world must drive some nutz

Whether it's 8" or 32", I need a reference point to tell me where the slug/shot is going. That reference point needs to be true to the bore center to do that. If a barrel's front sight is canted, the barrel sight is no bueno. The length of the barrel is kinda irrelevant imho.
