Mossberg 930 C-SPX - 250 Unit Target

I spoke with the folks at Grouse River who contacted Mossberg. They are still currently saying the SPX and JM are unavailable for export to Canada. How much longer is this going to take? If its going to 8-9 hundred dollars to build a fake one, I'm of the mindset to just save the money up and buy the Remington Versa Max Tactical. Can someone please update us to the status of these 930's? This has been over a year. Thanks

I have to agree, it is not hard to alter mag capacity to 5 rounds and ship the damn things north.

I built a SPX clone on a Mossberg Home Security. It is for sale in the EE at this link.. The front sight is a Remington with tritium insert.

I did see your build while I was looking, and I did consider it. I don't want to come across as a low baller cause I completely understand where the costs come from. I looked at doing the same thing. That is where the problem lies. The SPX and the JM are only $700 dollar shotguns. The cost to build one is terrible. For $1170 in parts, I would just look at the Remington Versa Max Tactical for $1280 and have a brand new factory built gun. I am not knocking what you did, but just can't justify the cost for something we have to cobble together because Mossberg won't put a plastic plug in their models to a market that obviously is showing a demand for the product.

I'm not as patient, I'm already putting together parts to build my own.

First piece of the puzzle.

Thats what I was thinking...Why not have Irunguns import one? They'd have to remove the magazine extension to make it legal but that should be about it I think. I believe the 930 is 4+1 without the extension. You'd have to have a gunsmith up here permanently alter the extension so that it only excepts one additional round. Does anyone know if it would be permissible to ship the mag extension with the gun provided that it's not mounted??

They have a shop in the US as well where they could modify before import I'm sure. . They told me they would do a group glock 19 import if I wanted to organize it. Maybe they could give a deal on the import fees and such on 100 930 spx's

I would think it would just have to be blocked...just like any magazine. no fancy gunsmith work needed. Wood dowel should be good. That is all that is needed when you go hunting to limit your shotty to 3 rounds.

The blocking needs to be permanent, not just a loose dowel. There is a reason why mags are riveted and not blocked with a bolt and nut.

I know we're getting a bit off topic here but I'm curious as to how a a gunsmith permanently limits a shotgun mag extension. Any ideas??

It can be pinned, or a permanent internal block can be installed (the funky ribs on the Benelli M4 tube are there to limit the capacity if you ever wondered about those). Some guys have epoxied a block into the extension. I have thought that a long follower would be good as well, but haven't seen that done nor seen an opinion on that from the RCMP lab techs. Typically, a mag has to be sealed shut if there is a loose blocking piece inside it and I wouldn't want to do that to a mag tube on a shotgun.
