Geez, they look decent to me. But if they are north of 1500, wouldn't you be better off with a Ruger Precision rifle?

I was in the same boat as you were, hemming and hawing over the mossberg.
I went and spoke with a very helpful gentleman at Cabelas in the north end, spoke for 45 mins at the gun counter with him.
He said that they are a great package put of the box for the price. He said they were quite accurate as well. He also said that the return rate on them was 50% or so, due to a plastic piece on the bottom cracking.
I walked out with a Savage model 11 Predator in 223. Haven't looked back.
rl4930 Are they really that bad?
Yes,
Money can be spent much wiser on other things. If you read a positive review on a mossberg, make sure the person writing the review is comparing it against something half decent, or has the experience to do so. A good Remington or Savage would be money much better spent. On that note, I haven't seen too many groups that make me want to go out and buy the ruger rpr either.
