Mossberg Tactical 25 round mag prohib?

Well,

I want to know if anyone has actually sent a formal email request to have the mags cleared to be legal at 25 rounds?
I have just called the CFO and was told that they are prohib and have to be restricted to ten because they are interchangable with a pistol.
I was told to send an email to firearmident@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
that last thing any one of us need is to be a paper criminal.
Any solid facts with government documents to prove them to be okay at 25 rounds would be great to have on hand.

Thank you for your feedback on this.
Also is this the right forum for this question?

clearly the cfo has it confussed with the ruger bx-25 magazine that fits the ruger charger other wise the mossberg tactical 22 could not be sold with the 25rnd mags theyre info is just plain wrong

I sure hope its a mistake on their end, but if anyone else would care to call and confirm that would be helpfull. I will try and call again and hopefully get a differnt response. anyways i will reply later tonight with any updates on my end.

CFO's don't even obey the law. Their legal opinion varies from day to day and means nothing. Please don't remind people like that of more thing to prohibit.

That's basically it. If you're not comfortable with the 25 round magazines then stick with the 10, but you are fully within the law with either.

Target, if a rimfire rifle magazine is designed and also described for use in a pistol then it is prohibited unless pinned to ten rounds. Example is the Ruger BX25, it's a 25 round mag but since it packaged and describes that it fits the Ruger Charger 10/22 it must be pinned to ten rounds or it's prohibited. :(

I'm referring to the (rimfire)capacity and not the application. Rimfire rifles have no capacity restriction unless as was mentioned, the magazine can also be used in a restricted firearm as well.

The Mossberg magazine only fits Mossberg rifles.

Per the RCMP:

"Magazines designed to contain rimfire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a rifle do not have a regulated capacity. However, magazines designed to contain rimfire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semiautomatic handgun are limited to 10 cartridges. Magazines designed or manufactured for use in both rifles and semiautomatic handguns are subject to the handgun limit of 10 cartridges.

Example:
Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle and 15-22P pistol chambered for 22LR caliber:

the 10 round magazine is unregulated
the 25 round magazine is a prohibited device"

I'm referring to the (rimfire)capacity and not the application. Semi-auto centerfire rifles are limited to 5 shot to remain non restricted and restricted handguns are limited to 10 shot. Rimfire rifles have no such restriction unless as was mentioned, the magazine can be used in a restricted firearm as well.

The Mossberg magazine only fits Mossberg rifles.

Was a thread recently posted that these magazines fit another rifle if they have a tab cut into them, but it was still used in ANOTHER RIMFIRE RIFLE, so perfectly legal.

Found it, a Zastava-Z5.

"Semi auto centerfire rifles are limited to 5 shot to remain non restricted". No. Magazines designed and manufactured for use in semi auto centerfire rifles are limited to 5 rounds.
"restricted handguns are limited to 10 shot". No. Magazines designed and manufactured for use in handguns are limited to 10 shots.
"the magazines can be used in a restricted firearm as well". Not restricted firearm. Handgun. There are restricted firearms that are not handguns.

Is there a pistol which uses the Mossberg magazine? Either there is or there isn't. Which is it?

Even if there were such a pistol, is the magazine in question labelled and advertised as being usable in both the rifle and the pistol?
If not, it is a rifle magazine.
The Ruger magazine is limited to 10 rounds.
Other magazines for Ruger rifles are not.

Good grief...let's move on.
The CFO in this case was wrong...or was thinking of the Ruger.
The Mossy is legal...let it go.

I did and congrats, you are now a _____..
Please refer to my comment about replying with substance.

Here is the bulletin that was issue in 2011 to businesses regarding maximum permitted magazine capacities:

http://www.rcmp.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/bulletins/bus-ent/20110323-72-eng.htm

This also refers to the reverse of max capacities regarding pistol mags..... it states that if a center fire mag pistol of 10 rounds which also fits a rifle it must be pinned to five rounds.

Clause #4 in this bulletin says it all. Mossberg doesn't make a handgun, so even if you could jam the 25rd mag into some other gun and make it function, that's not the original intent of the mag. Yer Clear!, now go have fun.

4. Magazines designed for one firearm but used in a different firearm

The maximum permitted capacity of a magazine is determined by the kind of firearm it is designed or manufactured for use in and not the kind of firearm it might actually be used in. As a consequence, the maximum permitted capacity remains the same regardless of which firearm it might be used in.

Example:
The Marlin model 45 (Camp Carbine) rifle chambered for 45 Auto caliber uses magazines designed and manufactured for the Colt 1911 handgun, therefore the seven round and eight round capacities are permitted. A similar example is the 10 round capacity magazine for the Rock River Arms LAR-15 pistol, regardless of the kind of firearm it is actually used in.

Thank you for your time, ignore away, and you should read the original post as I mention nothing about the S&W.

Unfortunately no I don't have my answer yet other than some gentlemen on CGN saying they are legal. Not referring to the RCMP link provided. As the CFO is still saying prohib and so is the firearms refrence guide.
