Most overrated rifle

Speaking of .22lr I would say anything on the Anschutz 64 action is pretty darn overrated.

Yeah they shoot well and the chambers are tight, but the 64 is cheap feeling and looking, the mag release is a ridiculous little nub that isn't fun to operate. The magazines themselves are ridiculously priced with meh build quality.

To me they feel like a slightly refined Savage Mk II. I'd much rather take an old BRNO or CZ 452, 453 or 457.

I 'm not really sure i would agree on 10/22 being overrated, I have a number of them, and they all function fine. Accuracy could be better, but what rifle couldn't?

I think the take-down version of the 10/22 may just fit in the description, based on price versus accuracy, but again they still work well and are consistent in aspect of accuracy, just could be better.

Never met a gun I didn't like in some way, but some are just better value than others?

Cabdocad.

You talk a lot but don't offer any pics or alternatives ...... Why not post pics of your plinker 22 with bulk ammo and a red dot at 25yds then and show us how it's done?

My plinker.. I can go shoot paper to take pics of anytime. I can also take quite a few 10/22’s to compare against. But it’s so easy and sleazy to just post the best groups that it doesn’t matter.

Red dots are for fast target acquisition before accuracy.

I have many 10/22’s that all took work or money to shoot as well as you pictured. Hence my comments.

Enjoy your day and enjoy what you will.

Imagine how good you would shoot right side up....

Shot 400 plus gophers Saturday. A semi automatic offers no advantage to a good bolt gun in the real world. And I control when the chamber is loaded.

Well, yes and no :)

10 or so years ago we were infested with gophers. To the point that on one particularly horrible piece of land, about 5 acres I ran 550+ rounds through mine in in 2-3 hours. Then went back the next morning and did the same again. The little guys were just out , I was getting well over 80%. 100+ plus rounds in clips ( the 25 round mags were legal), speed loader.

My brother and I went through 3-4 flats of long rifle 2-3 years in a row ( I would have to check my records) .

Spray the action out with brake pad cleaner, run some plus a clean bore snake through the barrel and drive on.

The number of gophers was obscene. Different game in this situation

I will be the first to admit they are not the same as a quality bolt action. We also had a few guys come to shoot that brought a good quality bolt and a 10/22 or one of the mossberg semi auto. Wasn’t long before they switched to the semi primarily

Great idea. This thread needs pictures. My $50 Cooey Model 60 and some groups with different ammo.20210501_095020.jpg

Count me in for the 1022. And I’ll add all four Savage rimfire rifles I’ve owned, both bolt and semi. All gone now and I won’t be separated from my cash for anything Salvage ever again.

Agreed on that fer sure.;) In '89 I went with an amigo to southern Alberta on a 2 week gopher mission. The first ranch we worked looked like the fields were fookin' moving as there were so many ground squirrels covering the area. I was really glad to have me 10/22 and the bugger was dead solid reliable with the 12,000+ rounds of Rem Yellow Jackets I put through 'er that the beasty preferred.

Sure there were some misses on long shots out past 100 yds, but that just added to the learning scenario. A talley of rounds expended after shooting on three ranches in those 2 weeks exceeded 27,000 rounds between the two of us. There was a smattering of centerfire stuff ranging from .17 Rem to .45-70 added in for fun.

Das gopher plopper.
