Most overrated rifle

You missed the best part of a 700, the design....the gas sealing ability with the 3 rings of steel.
There isn't a custom rifle, nor any comparible commercial rifle that comes close to that safety.
Tikka is the perfect example of overrated, built as cheaply as humanly possible, one action length for all cartridges, garbage factory stock, garbage bedding system, $100 plastic magazines, but hey the action is as smooth as a $400 Savage Axis...yay for that feature lol.

This thread is really confusing as I’m a big fan of Remington 700, Tikka T3 (and Ruger 10/22).
One thing:I never bought a lower grade Remington 700 or Ruger 10/22 which might explain my experience! (Some cheaper 700s have truly awful build quality)

Oh, the Swedes want them, they just can't have them. There are restrictions on the number of guns allowed to be owned in Sweden. When you reach your gun ownership limit it is necessary to trade in a used gun if you want to buy another gun. These used guns pile up in the gun stores and are sold wholesale to North American importers.

Current Swedish Gun Limits (from Anders):

6 guns on a hunting licence.

8 rifles/shotguns on a target shooting license.

Good post.

I took mine to the range today to celebrate 10/22 Hate-Er Day. :)

It's only a 25yrd target but it's topped with a cheapo red dot and bulk Super-X ammo. It's pretty much perfect for the plinking gun I use it for and head shots on grouse.

I cut the end off my stock to get rid of the bbl band and free floated the bbl. That helped accuracy a lot.

Exactly why 10/22 are over rated. You either need to do work to them or throw money at them to shoot mediocre groups.

SCG

Guess again Jethro .... That rifle does exactly what I want with reliability and sufficient accuracy. That little mod took about an hour to do. Sounds like too much for you, but I got it done just fine.

IIRC two handguns for range use.

I cannot remember the exact details but there is/was a collector license with stricter storage regs.
Basically your private museum guns with no ammo.

Remington 700 more custom rifles built on it than all other actions combined .
Strongest action
All manners of target shooting the 700 rules that stat as well

I've never owned a Remington 700 ;) until the last few years and now I have two,:) both purchased from a couple of gentlemen on site. The first is a custom job, chambered in 375 Chatfield Taylor. And most recently, the second, new, a 700 CDL SF Limited Edition in 6.5 CreedMoor. So far so good:) but in all fairness, we'll see what happens with at least, a short test of time.

I think people are confusing overrated with good (or bad). Overrated I believe implies a positive reputation that is undeserved, or being oversold.

The 10/22 can be a good rifle, but there many who claim it is the best 22 rifle / the one 22 rifle everyone should own. Based on my experiences with several of them, I find them overpriced for what you get. The ergonomics aren't great and the accuracy (from a low to mid level unaltered one) isn't great. It most definitely doesn't make my list of must have 22s. If I find one for an inexpensive price I might pick one up (and by good price I mean $200 or less for a stock one).

Does that mean it isn't good? Some people have had bad experiences with them, I know a few people who have nothing but jams, can't get it on paper and etc. But I also know people who love them, and have had many years of trouble free use. Does this change the fact that they are overrated? No.
