Most overrated rifle

Reading trough the posts the 10/22 is a real contender for the title of most overrated rifle!

It covers my own experience with these jammomatics.

I was expecting something good from the Tikka T1X, no so much

Factory stock is not good, add a scope mount base and some rings, now you got a chin hold

Barrel finish was horrible

Bolt was so rough, they stamp some letters and numbers on it, rub your finger over it and you can feel it, had to sand it smooth

Mags would jam when loading them up, had to use a knife to pop them free to continue loading.

10/22 was a jam-o-matic

Recently picked up a Dlask 10/22, have yet to try it, but seems solid

I have never had a bad 10/22, and I have owned dozens... they work just fine right out of the box... the BX magazine was an ingenious design and generally runs flawlessly. People do the upgrades because it is fun, not because they have to... or they chase that little bit of extra accuracy, because the basic platform was never designed to be a bench rest rifle or even to shoot tiny groups... it is clearly a plinker, and that is what it was intended to be... having said that, we have shot an awful lot of small game with 10/22's. I think much of the hate comes from unrealistic expectations... sure there are glitches and exceptions, but they are magnified with the 10/22, because there are so many of them out there and people love to gripe about their peeves.

:)At last!! A bright light on the topic. A number of years back, on a Mule Deer hunt on draw in Alberta, I made my usual quick stop at P&D for 'supplies'. With the possibility of also getting in a little Gopher shooting, I also opted to pick up a Ruger 10/22. It's 'stainless & plastic' which:( is a rifle combo I'm not all that fond of, but...... . I was starting to think I had picked up the only decent one. It's a decent 'plinker' and functions reliably:d.
UPDATE:
Just did a quick trip/check down memory lane. When I purchased the 10/22, with it I also picked up a soft Ruger carrying case with a zippered attachment on it for 'goodies'. And, two spare mags:d:d.

Have been reading this thread with great amusement. The OP asked what folks thought was the most overrated rifle based on experience more than opinion. Well opinion and experience often overlap. After reading the posts god help the poor fella who has an opinion based on experience that a Remington 700 is overrated. Remington mastered the ability to economically manufacture and market a reasonably well made firearm to the masses. Build it cheap, make it reliable, make it affordable, and market it aggressively to the masses. The Remington 700 in my experience and opinion was, and is the most overrated rifle out there. It is not the be all to end all of rifles by any stretch of the imagination. But Remington aggressively marketed it like it was, and convinced many. The same can be said for the Remington 1100 on the shotgun side. Years ago when I was shooting competively, those fellas shooting 1100's kept a plastic tackle box full of parts to keep them running.
I may sound like I have a dislike for Remington, not true. They made a decent gun, for a decent price, offered it in just about any configuration you could think of. But they certainly were not all what they were cracked up to be. Thus in my experience hence opinion the Remington 700 is one of the most overrated rifles.

The question of thread was "In your experience, what is the most overrated rifle?" It is not a 10/22 defense thread.

So what rifle was it for you?

Oh, sorry . Am i the only one posting to this thread that hasn't answered the thread question to your satisfaction and as you've so clearly defined it to be, "In your experience, what is the most overrated rifle?"?? I was making comment to the posting by hoytcannon, period.

Have never owned a 10/22, but I have an Anschutz MSR rx22. It jammed often with the normal 22lr ammo. It didn't take me too long to find that the culprit is the slow speed of ammo, which didn't provide enough pushback for the bolt to move past the magazine slot. I have since moved to 22lr ammo with speed of 1450fps or faster. Never a hiccup after that

Time to heed your own advise as it seems you tend to be more off topic and the thread question than 'most others' with your  'instructions'.

Mr. Goat I could not have said it better

It’s not like I haven’t owned a Remington 700 or model 7 or a 721 or a 770 or a...

You would think I cursed someone’s wife out or something
