Mount for Micro H1

So I guess the screws that it comes with are too long, and the ones in it are that special head so I had to use the original ones with that special head on it... The tool Aimpoint gives you isn't long enough to go through the mount so I had to use an allen key and it didn't fit the original screws very well but I got it.

However with the Aimpoint, a quick release isn't needed.

Not sure if I totally agree. I have a H1 on a QR mount and a Votrex scope on QR mount. Both mounts return to zero within 1/2 MOA. It's nice to be able to swap between the two at the range without having to re-zero.

He meant you won't need to take the optic off because it shat the bed, Aimpoints don't. Plus, wiping the rear lens takes way less time than taking it off/put in pocket/whatever. Not that many combat optics are quick release actually.

Or put the lens cover on, someone also said on here that the quick release is to wipe the front lens, like you can't wipe it on the gun? Haha.

I have nothing against Aimpoints, I used to work for them (Mil/LE Pro Staff). I have quite a few Aimpoints and have used them in a couple wars.

If you have snow stuck in the front of your lens(because you went prone in snow) and you have to shoot someone, it is faster to take the optic off than it is to clean it. Clearing a recessed lens when all of your outside layers are goretex or other water repellent materials does not work very well.

Proper lens covers for the micro have only been made available recently. Nobody in their right mind is running a an occluded bikini cover on their optic that they may need to use at a moments notice.

As to not many combat optics having quick release, what planet have you been on for the last ten years?

You don't need to see through it to aim, you can make hits just fine with the front lens covered.

I have found my aimpoint filled with mud after going prone too, I just shot it... but I've trained a few times with the front lens covered before.

That will work up close, maybe I just need to practice more to make it work at 200m+...

If you can do that then you're a rock star. I'll just stick with quick detach mounts.

It works at all distances, it may depend on your eyesight, my right eye by itself isn't worth ####, but my left eye is well above 100%. That's the reason I actually train with the lens covered.

Larue on mine too

Yup. Have Larue or DD on mine. DD or that Fortis is fine for hobby use.

For my first T1s in Iraq I used Larue, then switched to DD in Afghan to shave weight. Went back to Larue when I needed to use my optic and couldn't due to snow on the lens. QD is a nice feature when the optic goes down.

OEGs were developed for Close Quarter shooting and never intended as an aide for medium or distant shooting.

With both eyes open, your mind superimposes the two images together. And like Red (who actually knows what he's talking about) says, presto.

That said, at contact and close ranges you can pretty much superimpose metal over meat and not botch it too badly either.

Weird. Now that I think about it, its almost as if the entire industry moved away from the OEG
