Good day all, I just picked up a Vortex SPARC Red Dot Sight which I am mounting on my VZ-58's NEA handguard. I am looking for advice from anyone who's shot a similar set up.

I am trying to figure out which riser to use. I currently have the low riser which has the dot pointing through the front sight, but not co-witnessing, more like partially obstructed by the front sight.

Is it better to just put it on the high riser so it clears the front sight all together? Also any advice for zeroing a red dot on a VZ-58 would also be appreciated as I've never zeroed a sight before? I plan on shooting 100 yards or less, mostly less.

Thanks in advance.

Ya I am 1 of the few who don't buy into the whole Co-Witness set-up hype.
I would use the high mount in order to take advantage of the redot's true advantage witch is an un-cluttered field of view. Although I prefer something that has QD capability so that if the optic dies you can quickly remove the optic and use your irons to get back in right away.
This is just my point of view and I think I am not alone ;)

This bad boy is mine although I am still waiting for Dlask to install my 12 inch barrel and send it off to Murdoc to get painted black.

As for sighting in I would recommend a 50 meter zero if you are shooting target's from 0 to 100 meters.
Hope this helps ya out ;)

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to put the high riser on it and see how that works. As for a QD mount, I'm not going to worry about that right now as the mount is pretty easy to take off, with just an allen wrench.

Hopefully someone at the range can help me zero it.

PS. Nice rifle Satain.

I'd recommend bore sighting it at home, then at the range get it on paper at 25m and zero at whatever distance you choose from there.

SPARC's are sweet! I agree with Satain, put the higher mount on for a clean field of view.

I did buy into the co-witness hype originally, but also disliked the factory sights and wanted to go the BUIS route. Even after having everything co-witness perfectly though, I found looking through the rear peep and through the optic to the front sight too busy and so I got a QD mount for the SPARC in the event of failure...knock on wood!

Below are the 2 co-witness configs I've done with my rifle. I prefer my SPARC on the cantilever mount though as the astigmatism on my eyes is pretty bad and so the dot is a lot cleaner closer up to me.

As for sighting in, get on paper at 25m then go from there. Take your time! Mine stays zeroed at 50m and I shoot 100m and under.

Satain, that is one nice rifle.
