What about drift?
I went with the 7mm-08 for my mountain build.
Yeah that's what I was thinking using my xbolt carbon fiber fluted barrel in .270 wsm and putting that ultralight Leopold 3-9x33 scope on it it would be 6lbs 9 onuceSum guy over think it just pick a caliber and rifle or work with what you have already
A nice lightweight Leopold scope maybe all you need on one of your rifles you own already

The fun part is wen you start looking at your camping gear that's wear you realy start to save LBS
Taz I would skip the Leupold ultralight. They have mediocre optics and a tough to use eye box.
The Leupold FX II 6x36mm has excellent optics (better than most of the VX 3 line), good eye relief, nice eye box and weighs 9.6 ounces (weighed myself on an accurate scale.)
If you absolutely need a variable mag I would go with the few extra ounces for a VX 3, but strongly consider the FX II 6x36mm.

That's going to be a new thread lol
I got just about all my ultralight camping gear off of EE saved a bundle of cash and LBS
Really I have to keep my eye out on here

I had so many problems with Bushnell scopes I will never give them another PennyMight be worth considering one of the Bushnell scopes that has the RainGuard HD lens coating so it won't fog up in the rain. For example, the Elite 3500 2-7x32mm. Weighs 13.2 oz.
