Mounties new pistol announced.

Most RCMP members carry the old S&W 5946.

Since mid 1990's.......:(

I did my Black Badge with all RCMP folks and at the end of day one we swapped guns. I had my Shadow 2 and they had what looked like the S&W in the above.

They were astonished at how well my S2 shot. I, by contrast, was astonished by how heavy the trigger was on their S&W. Pretty sure it was DAO too but I could be remembering that wrong as it was a while ago.

There was also some weird feature that you had to use an empty mag to check / prove the gun was clear? I remember it was a right procedure at the end of every drill. Most illogical thing I had seen in a while.

5946 trigger is 8-12 lbs, DOA.

It's a magazine disconnect.

During the "unload and show clear" phase, you have to remove the magazine and round from the chamber. During the "if clear, hammer down" phase, you have to re-insert a magazine (usually an empty mag) to drop the hammer. You then remove the magazine...

It's the same process with some S&W M&Ps.

Yep, that pretty much sums up what I remember (I knew I didn't imagine it :D ).

Red dot will be finicky to learn for some under achievers.
I’ve been to multiple Aimpoint Instructor classes with various agencies/instructors, and with the right trainers and training they have all been successful. Ontario has several agencies that have the GLOCK & Aimpoint ACRO P2 in frontline service, and multiple tactical teams for the last 3 years.

Heck, I'm a decent shot with my 5946 and I have a sig at home with a red dot, and honestly I struggle with the optic. So many years of muscle memory it's hard to bring a pistol up just shy of where I'd normally go, and I'm hunting for a dot. I know I'll get used to it eventually, but it's a tough transition.
I've spent many years avoiding fancy pistol stuff so as not to screw up muscle memory and mechanics with my sidearm.
Nice choice. Now how are they going to #### it up?
Oh that's super easy. Pulling the trigger to remove the slide. I foresee a lot of office pops.

Currently if you include the RCMP announcement GLOCK has 90% of the Canadian police market, I haven’t seen an increase in ND’s from agencies that field them, when you follow the rule of removing the source of ammunition, clearing the firearm, and physical & visual inspection before disassembly.

No issues at all it’s a closed emitter and like all Aimpoints are weather/water proof

It's a decent optic. You can even get flip-up covers for them. Not a budget option but they are on a few of my guns at this point. I trust it as much as the T2. I am not easy on my stuff but it still pales compared to what they are both designed to easily withstand.

I had the same issue at first. Hated it, honestly! It didn't take long to adapt though. I must admit now it's easier for me and by a lot. For very small guns I still do not like a dot so much though.
