I have an 870 with a 20: barrel and 3 shot mag extension. I want to mount a flashlight on it but am having trouble locating a product to do so?
can anyone make any suggestions?

the most elegant way to do it IMHO is with a railed forend (either modifying your stock forend with a rail, or purchasing something like the FAB defense forend) and a quick-release light mount.

The second there requires a picatinny rail (which I do not have). Is there a product that simply allows you to mount on on the side of the barrel etc?

yes, Badboybeeson has a product for sale (MOD-C for 1" lights) but it is out of stock. This is the only one that I have come across that is exactly what I am looking for.

...more stock soon..?!

thats why i linked the first as well :)

ive not tried that S&J clamp mount, but the simple mounts that clamp to the barrel or mag tube that ive tried have been pretty crappy. same goes for the streamlight style mount - jamming your fingers against the back of your light each time you pump sucks.

you can do a rail mod on most synthetic forends like i have on this Speedfeed forend:

there is a tutorial on how to do this (on a Hogue forend) by another CGNer, but alas i forget who it was. im sure if you searched the forum for shotgun light mount youd find the thread. i took my mod a step further and purchased aluminum (not plastic) picatinny rail, and used a dremel to carve a recess for it in the stock. i recessed it into the stock deep enough that you barely feel it on the forend when the light is removed. IMHO this beats many bloated tri-rail forends because it feels just like the factory forend with the light removed.

Not as ###y as some of the better alternatives out there but it clamps to the side of the barrel with ease and comes off just as fast with an allen key. Also a thumb screw clamp separates the light mount from the rail part.
Of course the actual light is still costly and you would need a pressure switch/remote end cap for any Police type work, but for my limited use this proved the way to go.

What's the measurement between the bolts Lloyd?
I tried one of those on a shotgun barrel and it wouldn't fit where I wanted it.

You mean you want me to take it out of the case and measure?

OK...

3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the bolt to the collar. In truth better suited to a 20 gauge than a 12 but it fits. No bolts sticking out.

Not the prettiest, but it lights up the bead and everything in front of it.

Thanks Lloyd,

I had tried it on one of Can Ammo's backpacker's and it wouldn't fit on the shorter, fatter barrel.

The surefire's to expensive and does not offer enough flexibility for me.

The cdm gear mounts are being made under Lic in canada by S&J hardware, not all items are ready yet as changes are being made.
If you have not seen the CDM gear mount your are really missing out, it has to be the best simple mount on the market.
That is why we have teamed up with CDM gear, oww and the owner is Canadian!

I just saw the Surefire 318LM fore end on their site, and decided that is the route I want to go on my 12.5" grizzly. Because of the single cell and the bezel is closer to the grip, it won't stick way out past the muzzle like the older ones. Anyone have a source in Canada?

That sure looks nice, but its expensive.

Hopefully they will make one that fits the 8.5" grizzly.
