Besides the optilock mounts, what other options are there out there for a short action receiver and 50mm scope and 1 inch tube (zeiss conquest is 1inch right?)? This information seems pretty hard to come by.

Leupold Ringmounts come in medium and high for the dovetail. Warne has rings and detach rings to fit the dovetail. Talley has rings and bases to fit the dovetail. Also I think burris still makes bases to fit, and use standard rings.

Thanks, Talley looks interesting. By my understanding I would need to the part number 252727 Steel Base for Sako I - II - III (Short Action); Model 85 0.200 height Blued $42.95

Which rings would I need though? Knowing the exact specs of my Conquest scope, can I mathematically calculate which height I need or is every rifle different?

What about the Warne? Am I looking for medium/high/extra-high?

Do any of these options use 'recoil lugs' on the top of the receiver?

Optilock ringmounts do, not sure if Warne does.

If you plan on keeping the rifle for a long time, I'd pony up for the optilock ringmounts.

Pretty sure Warne quit making mounts for sako's years ago. My favorite sako mount was Warnes Premier line. Anyways, for current production go with Sako ringmounts (not 2 piece optilocks) or Leupold, niether uses bases and thats what you want. After all, why use a base on a rifle with integral bases?

Interesting. These only seem to be made in ''low'', no other height. Will they accommodate 50mm scopes?

If you go with talley just call them and tell them what scope you want to mount and they'll send you the right ones. Opti locs are great but they probably weigh about a pound

I used the optiloks mounts on my sakos when I had them and they worked flawless. The optilok ring mounts would be the best option if u could actually find them. The talleys u need to check but I believe the have a set screw u tighten down into the dovetails on the rifle and they mark up ur receiver ontop.

Thanks. I've seen them on a .338RUM, and have a set on my .338wm, seem to hold there own.

I actually tried the optilocks, but with the built in recoil lug, I couldn't move the ring forward enough to obtain proper eye relief. With the Leupold ringmounts, it wasn't an issue.

x2

I have the r & b setup on most of my Sako rifles, except one (338-06AI).it has the Ringmounts. Love them. No issues with any at all. Even have a safe queen set for my next Sako project rifle.
