only an hour commute? my commute to work is usually 10+ hours each way, last time was 22 hours, southeast bc to northeast bc via edmonton.
i live in bc, work in saskatchewan, alberta, and northeast bc (oilpatch stuff). it is great, takes extra time to get home but the lifestyle is far better than sitting in edmonton drinking on my days off. in the management unit that i live in, there is hunting for: whitetail, muley, elk, bighorn sheep, black bear, cougar, and turkey with over the counter tags (no tag for turkey required), and goat, moose, and grizzly on LEH. i have several fishing options within 10 km. life is good, i wouldn't trade it for anything in the city.
all those who are (or are thinking) of having a house with a rental suite, BE CAREFUL! most areas are not zoned for it and the city will close it's eyes UNTIL someone (a neighbour?) complains, then you will be shut down.
