Moving to the US - what would you get for a concealed carry gun?

I should amend my statement , "I doubt I will ever even visit there again... " to I doubt I will ever head south of the border again" ... I can vision a drive up to Alaska ...

Alaska cruise, I highly recommend it. Have done two since 2011. Last time, in 2019, did a 1 week, small ship cruise. That is the way to cruise.... not the big 'cattle boats'.

As much as I love my Heirloom Precision CCO, physics matter. I would most likely carry Glock 43 or Walther PPS. The biggest gun I would carry would be Glock 48. I hated glocks (even glock 19's) until I got the 43 and 48. Their slimness won me over. I can also get a better grip on them.

My understanding is that if you're a legal resident, in my case, a "lawful permanent resident" VISA holder, you're fine to own and purchase firearms
hate to pee on parade but visa is not permanent resident, ie green card. I came in on visa sponsored by employer. They sponsored permanent and hired immigration lawyer to expedite. Was 18 months. At which point I could buy and own.

There are exceptions referenced on form 4473, ie hunting permit.

To answer your first post: I most often cc a Springfield XDe9 which I like. Sometimes full size XD9 or 1911, occasionally Browning Hi Power just for sentimental reasons.

OP,
Do NOT renounce your CDN citizenship.

Indiana is as BLUE as BLUE can be.

Blue being of Unconstitutional, spineless, socialist,Democratic Party, brain dead idiots.

You would be better off entering the Southern Borders to gain access into the USA,than the Northern Border.

So Canada Lite?? :p

But I agree, keep both doors open. The only constant is change and I would think that it would be very smart to leave yourself open to options.

In-laws in Tennessee husband and wife both carry M&P Smiths not sure cal but probably 9mm. Want lots of capacity when going head to head with a gang banger. —Dieseldog!

Although I would love to be able to carry a handgun when I am out in the bush hunting or whatever I really would not look forward to the responsibility of having a loaded handgun around children and others in my truck or home. It is a different mentality that you would have to adjust to. And if the gun is not loaded then it is just an expensive hammer.

If you're carrying the firearm why would it be an issue around children? Do you worry about your kids when they're Round cops

I think I'll buck the trend and go with a Short bbl'd 'Hammerless' revolver in .327 Magnum. I like 32-20 very much as a cartridge, bats out of it's league IMO. Don't that was then...this is now....32-20 is obsolete. But a .327 magnum would be handy and light I'd guess.

guns laws are different in each state.the further south you go the easier it is to have a legal firearm transferred thru form 4473

me i waited for my 30 day residency in alabama then went to a pawn shop and applied(4473) using my I94(L1B) visa.i also had my SSN and drivers license.
for foreigners it will not be instant approval--that 1 took 4 hours and as i was out shopping to get supplies for my new toy the pawn shop called
and said come pick it up.

i also purchased a hunting license online(if over 34 or so no "mentor" needed to sign for you)--about 30$US

after 90 residency i got my "pistol permit"--go to your county courthouse with the filled out paperwork--
20$ per years and 20 minutes later i had my CCW.no course needed in Alabama.

longest it took was 1.5 weeks but i believe that gunshop owner was being a d!ck 'cause i was not ex military or 'merican.
usually it was next day for a transfer.
