MR-1 and Lapua Scenars 77 gr...Wow... Pics...

Oh god. Your rifle just out shot 3400 dollar Swiss arms....

What is it with your hardon for the SA all the time?? :jerkit: Jog on mate.

It does seem this guy has hate on for the PE-90 perhaps he suffers from a bit of Swiss Arms envy!!! Of course I did too when all I had was a Mini-14 to shoot with!!!

Tell ya what there matty86suk, you enjoy your Mini-14, and I'll enjoy my Swiss Arms:D

And back on topic, those are impressive groups, what is the twist on the MR1???
Nice shooting!

The twist is 1 in 9, it would shoot 40 to 53 gr very nice (52 gr Amax being the best load prior to the Scenars 77 gr ) then open up until 75 gr ( very good load ) and now with the Lapua 77 gr it is the best so far, by pushing them at full trottle must help the accuracy, i am reloading with Federal case, if i put my hand on Lapua cases, it may improve a we more... Cheers. JP.

Have you tried using IVI brass? I'd be curious to see how the smaller internal case volume affected your powder requirements. Also, were there any signs of excess pressure on the spent cases?

No did not try them and when i was develloping that load,i went 1.3 gr over the max and i had to back down to eliminate the pressure signs, i am still .6 gr over the limit and very hot but no pressure sign whatsoever, i will post a picture of some spent cases soon... Cheers. JP.

I don't have a hate on for the Swiss arms, I think it is a beautiful rifle, owners of the gun just think it is the end all the 223 black rifles, and I am sick of their elitist demeanor, and when a mini 14 or in this case a mr1 out shoots the SA I can't help but stating the obvious. Sorry if the truth hurts guys. Keep on shooting

Heh, the MR1 didn't outshoot a PE90 because the OP didn't compare the two rifles side by side with custom loads for each. There's no need for all the acrid comments man!

Way to hijack the thread guys.

I would have thought 77gr bullets would be too long for the 1:9 twist to stabilize. Have you tried them out any farther than 100m, Caramel?
Yeah, I'd have thought that also. I should see about some of these loads for my 1:9 twist AR15. Were you using an optic Caramel? If so, what magnification?

For the occasion i mounted my Sightron Big Sky 36X on it and i did not try them past a 100 metres, but a while ago i di made a nice groupe at 200 metres with 75 gr Hornady Match a 2.4 inchs group so i am pretty sure those 77 gr Lapua Scenars will duplicate this group and maybe best it a bit and for the record i am in it for my personnal satisfaction i have no ideas of comparing with any other brand, i wish everyones to make goods groups whatever you are shooting... Cheers. JP.

I was asked a while ago if i had tried the 77 gr Lapua Scenar further than a 100 metres, lately i was at my friend place, were we had a chance to shoot at 400 metres, it was windy and all groups were around 6 inch, except one that was 4.2 inch when the wind was down, can not put pictures now, problem with Photobucket but i have them and as soon as possible i will put them... Cheers. JP.

And how do you figure it's out shooting the Swiss? The accuracy with handloads in both the MR-1 and Swiss are comparable.

OP, great shooting!

Very cool. I just wish the ergonomics weren't so f**ked up on those rifles.

I bought the MR1 because the ergonomics were so right. I find the AR awkward to hold without an angled for grip.

Otherwise, I might have to try a load like that one of these days. What are you using for optics?

Be happy to give you my recipe... For optic i swap often but for now one wear a Sparc and the other one is mounted with a Zeiss 3.5X10X44 Z-Plex... Cheers. JP.

I can't wait to get home and get out my Mr1 out and sight it in.......any advice on scope mounts....picked up a Nikon Coyote special..... what factory ammo do you find most accurate?

Beat me to it JP, I was going to suggest some Hornady TAP 75 gr. looks like you found your load. Nice shooting. The MR-1 is way underrated and to be honest may be the best value for non-restricted semi 223's. They drop a lot of coyotes in these parts.

If you use commercial ammo an exellent sub moa load is Hornady 75 gr Match, they shoot .8 .9 on a regular basis, take out the rear metallic sight and get a good Zeiss or quality scope, this rifle deserve good glass. if you use a Sparc it will co-withness with the metalic sight it is very easy to see your sight tru the Sparc, the real potential is reloading as i got as low as .210 3 shoots groups with Lapua 77 gr, good shooting and remember the guy beside maybe shooting a 3000.00 rifle but i doubt if you do your part that he can outshoot you and your MR-1... Cheers. JP.
