Just bought one and fell in love the first time I pulled the trigger. It reminded me of an FN-C1.....yes I know it's different so don't go there, nostalgic wise it brough back memories of the good old battle rifles with an incredible trigger. The barrel is light and heats up fairly quickly opening up the groups, so if your buying one for a run and gun don't, stick with a mil-spec rifle.

If your looking for a semi auto to take into the field for coyotes or whatever and takes AR mags, this gets a thumbs up. I already tried it in my saddle scabbard and it fits like a glove, for me I found my new ranch rifle. Is it the best out there....comes down to personal preference,as a total package and dollar for dollar value, Rob arms XCR is king in my opinion. To get a good scope mounting on my MR1 I removed the rear sight, by itself the irons are great, but with optics a pain in the arse, in my opinion a full length rail with a flip up rear site would have been king and made this rifle a little more attractive to tactical shooters. A milspec barrel would have been outstanding also, and would probably go along way in maintaining rapid fire accuracy.

Now why did I take this over an XCR... I love the AR-15 platform for tactical run and gun and got that covered. I wanted a working ranch rifle that takes AR mags, and loving the old battle rifles like the FN-C1 and the Hk-91/G3 this rifle gave me the feel of having one of those in my hands again probably more psychological than anything. In the end the package is a great shooter if shot in moderation...easy on rapid fire or accuracy goes for crap, Awsome trigger with quick reset.. Double taps are exceptionally accurate. For me the rifle fits..ergonomics in all positions is a pleasure to shoot. Low recoil. In my opinion this is one of those rifles that will be a love hate relationship, for me I love it enough to overlook the minor Benelli oversites and hope they make improvements in the future and build on a rifle I feel has great potential in the civilian or LE market.

Nice review im saving for an xcr but tempted with the mr1 I could afford nice glass and more shells mags ect if I went with the mr1. what to do ?

Nice write up LRC. First time I held the MR1 I fell hard for it. Just don't like the price tag. Figure I can pick a Mini-14, Tapco stock, couple Ruger mags and a can of ammo for about the same price.....but the fit, feel and quality of that MR1 still lingers in my mind.

I want to put a low profile scope on mine but when I tried to remove the screws holding the rear sight on they are so tight I am afraid I might strip them. They must have put supper glue on them. Any sugestions.

Yes they are tight, make sure you use the right size torx and apply gentle but firm presure, dont strip the screw head. They have been glued but they should not strip. It takes a little bit of presure but once the glue bond has cracked and the bond broken they thread out like a normal screws and can be reinstalled. I had no problems removing mine.

they just use some loc-tite like stuff on the screws, either use an impact driver or apply lots of downward pressure to prevent stripping, then its business as usual.

so here's a question... somone mentioned that they wouldn't work well in competitions as they have a thin bbl. would they accept a standard AR heavy bbl? I realize you're taking an expensive gun and making it more expensive, but that should solve the problem no?

I think you pretty much answered your own question, if that's your intent a Rob Arms would be by far the better pick and far easier and economical to accommodate the toys for run and gun.

This rifle in my opinion fills the role perfectly of a working ranch gun, or pickup partner for varmint hunting. Although it has a Military look to it with a 30/5rnd mag, in my opinion it will not be competitive in a run and gun. Just not designed for that kind of role. Benelli calls it a home defense rifle, and yes it would fill that role to scare the crap out of an unwanted guest and a little rapid fire to boot, but in Canuckistan, I'd say a short Non restricted 12 gauge would be better suited.

This is an excellent rifle but if your spending money to make it something its not to me would be a waste.

I got the rear sight off ok, thanks for the info. I was wondering where I can find a longer picatinny rail to cover the top of the receiver.
