Now i know that some of you dicks are going to make negative comments, if so, this wasn't posted for you.

That aside, I came across a deal in the EE a couple months back that couldn't be passed up. The wife needed something a bit heavier than her 260 and I wanted to tinker with a new caliber. The Tikka T3 in 338 Fed came up just at the right time. She wanted something that fed smoother than her Mod 7, and Tikka is known for a smooth feed.

After an intial test with some factory federal fusions, we agreed that it was plenty accurate for her needs, and it wasn't going to hit her too hard to shoot proficiently. She claimed it and it was off to Canadian tire for paint. Krylon texture paint makes up the base, and gives the stock a nice feel without acting like sandpaper under recoil, the artwork was done in some of her fancy acrylic art paint on top of the base, she hand painted all that.

Although i can't see myself at the range too often with this gun, i do think it looks good, and am glad to have a wife who has bought into my obsession and does what it takes to make it fun for her too.

Might be great camo sitting along a fence row in early aug!!!

All kidding aside she did a nice job.

I am suprised that the recoil doesn't bother her, I would have thought the 338 Fed in a such a light gun would pack a fairly stout punch.

Excellent job! I admire anyone who can paint or draw. Interesting that she doesn't find the recoil too much. I've wondered what one of those .338 Federals is like to shoot. The rifle I shoot most often is a .280 Remington; I suspect the Tikka pushes back a wee bit more, like 10% or so.
And say what you like, but I prefer her treatment of the stock to those gaudy twenty thousand dollar European engraved and carved mostrosities!

To be clear, i like the paint job myslef, alot, it is just something my manhood won't allow me to take to the range alone. Hopefully i can show you guys another pic here soon with a bear and my wife present with the rifle. A nice blackie should be just the ticket to break it in.

Nice............. for a Tikka. OOOoops, Just kidding. Sorry, could not help myself.:D

That paint job is fantastic. Most excellent IMO. I'm gonna show my wife the pictures to see what she thinks.

Peace brother!

Too bad it's a 338 Fed...that is the biggest farce unloaded on the shooting public since the EtronX.

I think this is a great middle of the road caliber that will offer interesting alternatives to the 358 win, 35 Whelen, 338 06, etc. Being Federal's first baby, we will at least be able to get some factory ammo for it and get some offerings from different rifle manufacturers. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, but at least it offers availability...
