MSAR Clear AR mags in stock

I appreciate that. But with a bit of work, as I described, I got them all to fit.

Might I ask what modifications were made? I bought some of these and I'd like to know what kind of changes you made. Thanks

Also a general comment for the forum. The most important thing is that they feed, the seating and drop free can be tinkered with. I guess that leads me to my question, do they feed reliably?

Well we definitely feel bad about the "bad eggs" that seem to have been hidden in a batch of 1500 mags. We will not be bringing them in again. We are having a different mag brought in. It is not a pmag or a msar mag. But it is polymer and has a "lower level" of failure than even the mighty pmag. Look for it soon......

Troy battle mags?

I am neither angry nor dissapointed, and I am impressed with your response to the issue.
I agree.

I spent the morning fixing mine, here is what I did:
-tapped the round circles in the base plate which broke the bond with the glue
-used palm sander to sand the spines and the sides of the mag. Removed quite a bit of plastic before they were dropping free.
-increased the mag cap to 5.5, I won't comment as I'm not sure the legality. Be rest assured they don't hold more than 5 rounds currently.

They all drop free now and seat on a closed bolt, I just hope they will feed properly!

I found that I just had to cut/file down the two plastic tabs on each side of the centre of the spine to get them to fit. Basically they had to be almost completely cut off for the mag to drop free when empty. I needed to do this on 15 of the 20 mags I bought. About half of the mags are still a little tight to insert when loaded with 5, but at 4 they fit much better. This goes for mags that I didn't have to cut down to get to drop free as well. With the tight pinning job, inserting 5 rounds causes the top of the mag to bulge enough that it can make inserting the mag difficult unless you sand it down, which doesn't seem ideal, but just loading the mag with 4 works fine. Changing the pinning would be the next thing to do, but I may just leave it and keep these mags as spares as I don't really want to have the spine drilled and re-riveted again.

As others have pointed out, breaking the glue on the mag base plate is easy. I just wrapped each mag in a cloth, placed upside down in a vice, and with the correct size punch, one hit on each of the tabs will break the glue allowing you to free up the mag base to slide off, and then you can peel off and cut of all the dried glue left behind. On a few of the mags, the glue job was extreme, and the mag base itself was stuck with glue to the mag body itself, requiring a decent hit on the base itself to get it to slide off. But once you clean the glue off, you are good to go.

G36 mags = $135 ea.
MSAR = $20 ea.

WAY better for my needs;) Even translucent... all 5 sweet as pie for less the cost of 1 of the originals. Made even better if another came my way;)

Ok,
Tried all 5 amber, and my one black mag in my Bushmaster, Dlask Anniversary, and Tavor.

In the Bushy, four of the ambers fell out no problem. One was hung up just barely, and the black was hung up more.
In the Tavor, only the black mag hung up. The rest fell.
In the Dlask, all hung, especially the black one. Couldn't get it to drop even after pushing on the bolt release.
I have heard that the Dlask mag wells are tight anyway. My metal mags all drop freely from it though.

I loaded five rounds into each mag, and stripped them like a bolt would (straight out the front). The last bullet does catch on the front right where the brass starts. Not as much though as it does on my LAR mag, where the break over is squared. On the MSAR, it is an angle. Nothing a sharp bolt release wouldn't cure.

On the one amber mag that hung, it seems to be just a slightly tight spot that lets go once you give it the slightest tap. In other words, it seems to need just a little initial push to clear, then it drops fine.
Hard to localize it, but I think it might be on the squaring tab built into the back spine of the body, directly behind the rivet. Just above the shoulder. There are two, on either side of the spine.

I might try relieving them.

Where the black mag seems to be hanging up is all along the sides towards the rear of the mag. They are shiny compared to the rest. Looks like there will be a belt sander in it's future. What the hell, it was free.

Other than that, I haven't fired them yet, but I think they will work fine.
I still think they were a good deal. Mine say 07/09 on the clears, and 04/09 on the black one.

I just got 5 and tried them out last night. The major issue here is that they are pinned at a tight 5 rounds, and in fact on 2 of mine seating the 5th round was so tight that it bulged the feed lips enough that the mag would not fit in the mag well. Remove one round and no problem but I wasn't looking for an effing 4 round mag. I am going to re-pin these from the rear - the massive rivet they use in the front will leave a huge hole but I will jimmy up a solution for that "somehow"...

These need to be pinned at 5.5 or they are a no go for me.

So is my free mag on the way yet? I was in before the end date. Maybe just got lost in the shuffle? And how are you people fixing the tight 5th rd issue. Thanks.

I wish stuff like this was not happening anymore, I can't stand hearing it especially since we are now in 2013....

Love to see some videos of these in action...possible comparisons as well to other GI or Pmags..

The whole drop free thing is overated..
