Muley or Whitetail?

What type of deer is this?

Mule deer are reddish, just like that one, through spring and summer.

Ahh, Ya. That was what I said. They would be similar in color during spring and summer, and their distinctive grey/brown color in fall and winter.

whitetail around here are also red during the spring/summer and grey/brown in the fall/winter. wouldn't both species be around the same colors the entire year?

Are we still arguing about this at all? Kamlooky had to be on the sauce to even post this thread in the beginning......:D

Mule Deer, mule deer, mule deet. If the thing was dressed up in a black trench coat, nail polish and lipstick with a Goth spiking collar around its neck and a ultra depressed look on its face, it would still be a non-hybrid mule deer.

I believe you're right. Perhaps diet and location might play a small part in color though.

Whitetail from a few days ago. Notice how much bigger the tail is then a Muley

The only thing that made me think for a minute was that it looks like it has a bit of a whitetail tail... but the more I looked at it the more it looked like that was based on the leg position and the tree behind

i'm not sure. we've been seeing whitetail on nearly every walk with our dogs for the last couple months and every deer has been red like your pic, including the does with twins we saw yesterday.

once fall rolls around they'll all turn more gray than brown no matter where i see them around these parts. must be the season more than diet?
