Long story short..got drawn for mulies down south and hunted for 6 days during the muzzleloader season and was too fussy then went back at the beginning of rifle for another 5 days and on the last day at 3:00 I shot this wide guy. I passed up way bigger but the 200" never came around and this is how my hunt ended. Not the one I was hoping for but I had a great time and got my first critter with my 338 Fed (235 yrd shot). Not my first animal but my first with this rifle. Grossed 155

Sorry about the ugly picture..This is my whitetail (again with the 338 fed). I hate to say it but I made a poor shot. I hit him really low and only found hair where I shot him. Very little blood (like I mean a drop then nothing for 20 yrds then another and so on. Then nothing.. found him the next day, thanks to the ravens. (Thus the bird crap all over the horns) The shot was only 160yrds but.. I don't know:(. It really bothered me to walk away but he never really bled or showed signs of a good hit. From what the rib cage looked like, I hit low in the brisket and the second last rib was broke on both sides right on the brisket.
He grossed 170 6/8.
Please don't hack me about the shot...I've beaten myself up about it already:redface:

Congrats on two nice deer

Don't beat yourself up too much over the "bad" shot, they happen (have been there myself and know the feeling and know its not a good one :(). Those who say it doesn't happen are full of sh*t or have never really shot many animals.

Obviously you made a great effort in recovering him and cheers to ya for that

Geez I thought one look at your ugly mug would of made that whitie fall over lol. Horn measuring is going to be pretty sweet this year I'm thinking. We didn't get drawn for mulies this year so I'm kind of jealous.

Ya I'm pretty pleased with the whitetail, the mulie isn't what I was hoping for as I was too fussy and passed up some nice deer waiting for a 200" but hey that's the way it goes. The two trips down south were a blast and will be putting in again.
This was the first whitetail I shot in 3 years. Again too fussy. I've had the ground shrinkage happen way too often, so now I look at the horns way too long and often as they are walking into the bush I think "I should have shot". I keep dreaming about getting the monster and I figure if I shoot a 150' I'll never get my 200" so I just don't squeeze the trigger too often, but I didn't want to let this opportunity walk past me.
The way I figure it, the season ends after you shoot and I don't want the fun to end.....however I now get to go out and shoot coyotes so the fun keeps on going...
