Multipurpose pump action with short and long barrels?

I'm going to buy a pump action for two different roles: safe queen, and the occasional clay-buster. I'd like to have an 18" barrel and a longer 26-28" barrel for the clays.

I am considering three different shotguns: The Rem 870P, the Browning BPS, and the Weatherby PA08. I really like the Brownings downward ejection as I shoot both left and right handed. The Weatherby is by far the least expensive.

It seems that none of the shotguns have both long and short barrels.


Approximate pricing in my area of all guns:

Weatherby PA08 (wood, 3 chokes included, 26 or 28" bbl): $435
Browning BPS Hunter (wood, 3 chokes, 26 or 28" bbl): $610
Remington 870 Police (wood, imp cyl, 18" bbl): $700

Anybody have any ideas, advice, or other options?

Thanks guys. The Mossberg 500 lineup does have the barrels I'd like and the price is right.

I'm planning on keeping this for a long time, so I'm not too worried about a little extra expense to stay with a higher quality shotgun, which is why I wasn't considering the Express lineup.

Someone PM'd me to consider a Supernova, which does the different barrel options, but I wasn't really thinking something so tacticool. Any opinions on the Supernova?

I hate mossbergs.... cheaply made guns... jmop.... that being said, the 870 is not rem's premium shotgun... but mine is 18 years old.... show me an 18 year old mossy that looks good and has taken multiple game animals.....
 
As I understand it, the 500 and the 870 Express are pretty similar.

I may just go with the wingmaster, get a second factory barrel and get a smith to chop it.

Short of user error, I don't think a wingmaster could ever let a person down. It shoudl be a gun that will out last you with regular care and maintenance - like brushing the dirt & stuff off it after each day out, and maybe cleaning it and oiling it each season :)
 
The older wingmasters were great guns. I sold mine to a buddy that uses it. I've switched to mossberg and now own 2 535s and a 400g that's as old as I am and has taken lotsa game and still functions flawlessly. The ithaca 37 is also a great choice. I still have my first one. Never been taken apart no blueing left on it but its the slickest smoothest pump I've ever handled with the 1 exception being my buddies F grade model 10
 
The Ithaca impresses me. Theres lots of good feedback and its pretty plain jane (that's a plus in my book).

It seems however that the 18" barrels for the defense version aren't compatible with the longer barrels for the hunting versions. The longer versions are takedown models while the barrel is screwed directly into the receiver on defense gun. Is this incorrect?

Don't think they make a factory 870 12ga rem choked tubed 20" barrel do they?? I have seen 18.5 , 21 and 23 factory. I thought the 20" were for slugs and mostly rifled or had sites fitted but I could be wrong.
