I came upon some nice wild mushrooms that I had thought were chanterelles. There was a group of them (not cluster) growing under a bunch of oak trees in the soil of a shady bush.
I picked a dozen of them, after bringing them home I am now wondering if they are False Chanterelles??
They are not Jack-o-lanterns.
The ones I picked have very thin singular gills that do not run down the stock and do not fork. The caps are 2 to 7 inches - funnel like yellowish/cream colour (not bright orange) , stalk is 1 to 3 inches long cream in colour no skirt or bulb.
These do have a nice light apricot like smell.
I have pictures available that I could email someone if they would like to help try to identify, please pm me.
Anyone have experience eating chanterelles....and identifying false chanterelles??
I enjoy identifying and researching wild mushrooms, I have a good manual that I use, but I have zero experience with chanterelles and am not sure.
these are looking false...Help needed
