Looking for some insight on what kind of muzzle brake to buy. i shoot .308, barrel is 20" 1/10 twist. id like it to thread on (5/8 24 threads) i wanted a surefire but apparently they are ITAR, kinda dumb IMHO.

The Surefire Brakes are classified as "Essential Military Equipment", I tried ordering from Brownells but no go. I spoke with someone IRUNGUNS and apparently they'll bring them in for you if you order off there US site.

im not a l.e.o or military. will they they still import for me?

I put a Badger FTE brake on my 308 and it made a noticeable decrees in recoil. I would highly recommend one!

ya ive actually looked at those too, coretac is an amazing company. ive ordered from them three times but i couldnt pull the trigger on their brakes. i hadnt, until now, heard anything good or bad on them.
FYI i just talked to wild west who said they have some on order but there in no time frame at all. i asked if i could reserve one and he declined because he has no idea when they will be in. he said to call back in a month to see, so i guess ill hold off and follow your lead on more posture work until then. he said they have on order, 6 of the 5/8 24 threaded models. ill update this thread when i call back in a month (probably less :))

I am very impressed with my Badger brake. Its on my 700p .338LM and shoots like a hot 243, hardly any recoil. Put 20 rounds through it yesterday and the misses put 10 through as well and said it was awesome and could have kept going and only stopped due to cost.... Looks sweet too.

I would agree about the brake from alberta tactical I ran one on my .300win mag and also on my.338 lapua mag easily going out and doing 50+ rounds with no sore body parts and more importantly holding the sight picture

Does anyone have any experience with the muzzle brakes from Blackrose Tactical in Maple Ridge, BC?

I see on their website (http://www.blackrose-tactical.com/shop/158/) a low priced 3-port muzzle brake for $74 (about $90 shipped) that should fit Savage rifles with a threaded barrel, but I'd like to hear other people's opinion before pulling the trigger.

If you have the Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD barrel, the FTE will not fit on it, you will have to have a gunsmith turn down the barrel to fit inside the FTE brake. I asked the gunsmith in Edmonton that P&D recommended and he said it would cost $425 because of the amount of work needed. Find a brake that doesnt slide over the barrel.

I have one of the Blackrose Brakes. They work phenomenally. The rifle almost doesn't even move when firing. You can stay on target and watch the bullet splash. Only drawback to any brake is the noise since most of the gases are being redirected sideways. First time I shot mine it made my ears ring even with Ear Muffs on. Gotta make sure you're not near anything flat for the sound to bounce off. Oh yeah, and they don't come with any type of crush washer or shims and 308 crush washers are damn near impossible to find. Questar has a shim kit you can buy though. It's around $10 with $10 shipping.

alberta tac makes a sweet break, my 80lb nephew put a full box through my 308 and asked for another mag with a big smile ear to ear!

these brakes come with a crush washer too. ive been in contact with them about their cheek rests too. look forward to doing buisness with them. too bad they dont have true online shopping

Following this thread with interest. The comment regarding noise levels with the Blackrose brakes is off-putting. I find increased noise levels, in many cases, more unpleasant and disturbing than recoil. Are there any brakes available to us that don't subject the shooter to significantly increased noise levels? I realize that they are going to be louder to bystanders, but how about sound volume at the shooter's ear...are there brakes that work to reduce muzzle jump (more important to me than actual felt recoil) without deafening me?

It's wonderful that people give their opinions on threads like this, but it sounds like a lot of folks have experience with only the one brake they own/owned. Has anyone tried several different brakes so that they can compare them fairly?

I didn't even know black rose existed, why the hell are there so many people that are not on this site, I would have bought one of there brakes instead of the badger thruster brake I have on my rifle now. There stuff does look pretty good. Also I went with a badger thruster muzzle brake, it works fairly ok, but I haven't had it out to shoot prone yet which will be the real test, also did not know that surefire brakes were so hard to get...

just bought the alberta tactical rifle AR-10 muzzle brake. its a thread onto my savage precision 10 carbine which greatly influenced the purchase. i didnt want to wait anymore for the surefire, which im pretty sure wasnt going to happen. i guess if i dont like it, i can always look into the surefire again and if thats still a no then ill look at the badger. thanks for all your input guys. sure makes spending money even easier! Ill follow up with my personal findings later on. they said it should be here by friday or monday at the latest.
