Muzzle break

Looking to put a muzzle break on my cz 557 .308, suggestions? I know almost nothing about this, just looking to make the recoil a little milder off the bench.. rifle is already threaded from factory 5/8x24 is what the manual says.. thanks in advance.

I have several Insite Self Timing Heathen brakes that I like . RJ

Agreed
Got.one of their g2 brakes with the tuner
Very impressed so far
The least obnoxious brake ive owned so far
I needed to use a strap wrench to keep it tight but after that was sorted all was good

I just use a piece of hardwood dowel. Keeps tight and doesn’t mark up anything. I have a couple and like them. On a couple rifles which I have the 419 Hellfire match, and pleased with both but they seem louder to me than the heathen!

I have one of the G2 tuneable Heathens too. But alas, I don’t need the tuning plate on mine. My load really can’t be improved on.

419 is fine

Well machined
But the blast on the shooter will be a negative when the shooter is experienced enough to appreciate watching trace
Also carbon lock up is a problem for many with the design on the threads

Carbon lockup has been a huge issue with my 419 brakes and those of some of my friends as well. The ports are cheese graters, so don't grab them by hand in an attempt to remove the brake from the locknut when this does happen...

And yes, concussion back to the shooter is more of an issue with this brake than others.

Lots of good brakes to chose from - Area 419 Hellfire, APA little bastard, MDT elite, Spearhead and PVA brakes, etc.
Of all the brakes I've owned the Heathen has been the most disappointing by a mile.

Thought I would ask here, as Im looking at building a 20" 308. Im just wondering is, how much jump does a 20" 308 (with lightish bullets) actually do? Are you able to spot your hits/misses without a brake?

That would depend on a bunch of factors: rifle weight, shooting position, what magnification you run your scope at and distance you're shooting at. A muzzle break definitely helps.

I had both, I prefer the insite, no backblast whatsoever, very pleasant for the shooter.

That's been my experience as well with most of the self-timing muzzle brakes, I prefer the Insite the best.

However, I haven't tried all the latest options in this market, and nothing beats a suppressor for concussion mitigation. So that's what I now use.

Insite Heathen has a No Questions Asked Money back Guarantee.....thats how I justified my 1st one.
I now have 4.... my next will be a Heathen

Kinda old thread but will chime in.

My best brake is the Fat Bastard Gen III on a 300 Win mag. Tuning the screws on top I can spot my own shots. This huge for me as I shoot alone allot.

I am in similar situation 300wsm shooting 215's initially a MB&M and moved to the new Spearhead ELR self timing brake. I didn't know what i was missing until i put on the Spearhead ELR brake. The brake allowed the rifle stay on target throughout the entire recoil cycle.
I found it to be and advantage to see my impacts while the rifle remained on target as I was able to adj more accurately follow up shots from the impact.

A buddy put one on his 300 win mag and shared a similar experience
