My 14 pistol roundup review comparison...Anyone interested in seeing the results?

It's always nice to hear reviews and comparisons from fellow shooters. Keep it objective and it should be interesting.

you can count on it Net ;) And you better believe it will be interesting. We already have a good inventory of ammo, targets, etc. And as I mentioned earlier, to make it easier, we're splitting up the review test days into 4. The first 2 are at the range where I'm a member at, and the other 2 days will be done at the range my friend belongs to.

Damn...I had a bunch of stuff typed up...and forgot to save before I closed the browser.. :(
Ok I;ll try it again.
We decided to split up the testing into 4 days. 2 days at the outdoor range I am a member at. This will be next weekend. The next 2 days will take place at my friend's indoor range near Toronto. This should make it less intense and give us more time to spend with each gun.
Gun inventory;
Mine;
1. Sig Sauer 1911R BSS Nitron 45 acp *stock*
2. Sig Sauer P226 Elite Dark 9mm *stock*
3. Ruger Mark ii 22 cal *stock*

9. Norinco NP34 9mm (a Sig copy look a like)

As for the category details, here's how we're going to run it;
For each of us we will have 2 sheets for each gun (1 for the pistol details, and 1 for the category rating

The following categories will be rated as follows;
1 ="meh, not impressed"
2 = ok I guess
3 = Liked it
4 = Hmm very nice. I'm impressed
5 = WOW I like this
6 = HOLY CRAP, off the CHARTS ! ! ! I loved it ! !

And here are the following categories we have so far;
A. Overall looks/aesthetics/ appearance
B. Ease of operation (reachable buttons, levers, release and slide catches
C. Loading/unloading (inserting/ejecting the mag)
D. Handling/ weight / balance **unloaded**
E. Handling/ weight / balance **loaded**
F. Sight usage (target aquisition)
G. Ease of access to safety if applicable
H. Trigger operation (feel/creep/ long pull/short pull)
I. Muzzle flip / control **single shot** (gauged as a 10 shot group)
J. Muzzle flip / control **double-tap** (tightest 2 shot group)

We will also take a pic of each of our targets after each of our test groups as a visual comparison.

***Please shoot me a PM if you wish to suggest a category to add to our review. Keep in mind we would like to keep it to around 20 (Please do not put it in this thread. Just don't want it to bog down to a discussion at this point). I will be taking hi rez pics of each gun for posting once done. This I will do the day before. One less thing to get in the way of the shooting ;)

That's it for now gents. Stay tuned for more info as we get closer to each range day.

***New to the mix is the Norinco M 1911 A1 in 45 acp***

We were thinking about what we could compare to my Sig 1911 since the other handgun platforms are different. How could we have a review without staging a bout with the most infamous handgun of all time right? Well we now have a new contender in the ring ! ! ! All the YouTube reviews on the Norinco have been quite favorable, and all say it's a great value and "bang" for your buck. Some have even gone on to say that sometime in the not so distant future, these Norinco 1911's will eventually become collectors items? I dunno...but what I DO KNOW is we'll soon see how it stacks up against my match-grade Sig Sauer 1911R BSS Nitron 45acp....gotta admit I'm a little curious to see who's gonna win this title and come up victorious. Or better yet.....who do YOU think will get the knockout punch ?
As the Roman gladiators say fellas..."I'll cya in the arena ! !"

I'm always amazed at how many Gun -Nutters seem to spend more time/effort/energy on bragging about what guns they have and agueing over the "fine" but INCONSEQUENTIAL points about the guns they have ... instead of getting out - pouring lead downrange enough to get REALLY competent enough in those guns to offer an educated and intelligent opinion.

sooperted If I've offended you or your obvious breadth of experience over mine (I've been licensed only since Jan 24 2015), then I apologize for offending you. But can I at least appeal to any good nature you may have to please not jack my thread. My intention was certainly not to offend you by advertising my intention of publishing a review of a variety of handguns for the benefit of anyone that wishes to read it. Everyone can learn something from someone. And one thing for sure that I DO KNOW well, and that's what I like to see and what I want to see in a gun..and write about it. That's it...I have no hidden agenda..sorry to disappoint you buddy. I also have no intention of trying to force you to follow this thread either. Although your welcome to if you wish to join in the fun...because that's what we intend to do. That and discuss guns :) ......your choice.

Oh and before you think about it..and I know you are...consider this the ONLY reply I will dignify to your post on my thread if you intend to try to poison my fun...any further ones will be dealt with by total ignoring you as if you weren't even there... I'm not even going to read it...not even going to respond to it..as I hope no one else will either. I don't want to see this turn into a mud slinging match......

Now then....can we all get back to doing what we do best gang?

Good response, and well said. What's wrong with someone wanting to have some fun experiencing different firearms. It has been my experience that sometimes, quite valuable insight can come from a novice. Carry on!

This a timely post as I am in the process of looking for a handgun. I look forward to your results

Hi Sluice, you can bet this will DEF be of use to you then. Not sure if you read all the threads so I'll give you a recap. It will be done over 4 days split into 2 range trips. The first trip will be at my range next week, the second one at my friend's range sept 07 and 08. I will compile the results in a post report and put it onto an excel sheet for ease of camparison. I'll post it up as a new thread once it's all done.
BTW, sent you a pm

Hey Guys, so here is the almost finished workup of the excel template we're going to use as our test pattern. Lemme know if anyone would like to see a category in there. There's still time to add it in there.

Would you be able to add a row for each pistol to state if they have a magazine disconnect? I'm close to deciding on my first handgun and that would be a deciding factor. Simple yes/no is all you'd need

I can do that Geo, Consider it done...but do you mean a mag release button? As in to allow the mag to drop out of the mag chute?

No. A disconnect disconnectes the trigger when the mag is removed.

To test, try to dry fire it with the mag removed.

A mag disconnect is a PITA.
@ Ganderite....Thanx for the clarification...and my thoughts exactly on that feature.

@ Geo did you see this post by ganderite? Far as I'm concerned, the only safety one needs is "finger out of the trigger guard at ALL times until ready to shoot. But I will add your category in as requested. Since you have been the only guy that's offered a category thus far, I'd be happy to oblige.

One of the things I like is a good trigger reset. Could you add a category for that? Things to look for would be whether the reset has a tactile or audible characteristic, whether there's any slack after the reset before the final break, and how long the reset is.

Thanks for your effort on this--it's a lot of work.

Hey Master, I think I put something on that in the review. Maybe not that specific question, but close. However, yours and many other peoples priority on the characteristics of a good trigger is DEF an important feature to comment on when it comes to deciding on a new or used gun.

We've already finished the biggest portion of the review on 9 of the hammer fired handguns just today and the reports are done. I'm now inputting the data that we wrote down and putting it into an excel sheet. But I tell you what I WILL do. When we do the next half of the review with the striker fired guns (Glock 41, 17, the S&W M&P 9, the 2 Walthers PPQ and P99, and one more striker fire Norinco M 1911 A1 45 acp) Sept 7 and 8, we can do a comment on that for the report as well. That shouldn't take too long. cool?

Glad to hear that you guys finally got some range time in. I can imagine the prep time and organization must have been immense. Looking forward to seeing the data when its all inputted.
