Measured the group on 2162 with BallisticX at 0.491.
There is over one caliber between the two measured shots so it is fairly obvious there is an error in the measurement.

I beg to differ, but I’m willing to listen. Any group is barely past .570 across the widest part. -.210” = .360??? I am a tool maker and work with precision instruments. My caliber in the OP was set at minus .210.

Great shooting and love the stock dude. Where did you get it and how much if I can ask. Cheers Chris

That one came from eBay, but buddy just ordered identical stock at go big tactical ( the only one they had) for $1035 plus Vudoo bottom metal for his rig.

I couldn’t be happier with it. AG composites makes it for
Mesa precision. Quoted at 24 ounces came in around 27. Makes a great plinker. It can be had with adjustable cheek piece but the weight goes up a lot.

Check out ag comp alpine hunter. Similar but thinner grip. Adjustable cheek riser is still in the 38is ounce range.

I downloaded SubMOA app. This is what it shows:

5 shot avg .384

ABD04058-7420-4779-939C-7A582AFE37CE.jpg

Whe I measure outside to outside and subtract .220, some of the bullet smudges in the sheets are as narrow as .150” so I can see some error compounded with my method. Some of the bullets leave a .220” circle but some do not. The measuring app seemed a little off also, on a tight group, once you mark 3 shots the others are obstructed and leaves you to guess in the middle.

Using index card or cover stock in the 65 lb. range gives clear concise holes.
Measuring smudge to smudge and subtracting the diameter of lone bullet hole will give you an ida a to the error that can creep in.

As stated in the title of the post . . .

My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

There are two key words . . . Prove it!

There are many who stretch the truth and there are some trying to shrink it!

To offer or add some clarification for readers in general, a problem with inconsistent hole size in the target is largely because of the paper used. Photocopy paper is especially bad for this. In the absence of paper specifically made for targets, it's often suggested that 65lb card stock be used for more consistent results. Of course this challenge doesn't specifify a paper quality.

While the challenge also doesn't specify what hole size to deduct from outside group measurements, it obviously can't be more than the diameter of the bullet itself. Any three adjacent bullet holes that are touching each other must be part of a group at least twice the bullet diameter used for deduction from the outside size, more when there is paper between adjacent holes. For an illustration, see post # 2157.

Thanks for the clarification guys! I’m always willing to learn something new. I’m only 52 and won’t know everything for about 8 more years!

I recently managed to shoot a 10 shot group at 50m that measured 0.375", so tried this challenge right after. I still can't manage to string 5 groups in a row though, except the one time I kept shooting because I didn't think one of them would make the cut. I've tried this challenge off and on with a couple different rifles over the years, but just can't shoot good enough to do it yet. Oh well, have to just keep trying I guess.
Kristian

It’s frustrating lol, but it’s part of the fun. I stopped counting how many times I’ve been under 1/2” on 3-4 groups and then have a flyer or pull a shot. My .22 is capable of shooting 1/2” or less most of the time if I do my part but I’ve yet to do five in a row lol.

Hey guys !

I recently bough an older Anschutz 1813 Super-Match from the EE.
I wanted a nice Benchrest 54 Annie for quite some time and this one was made in 82, which is my birth year... so I had to buy it ;)

I went to the range yesterday and fired a couple groups with Lapua Center-X.
I did the challenge on my first attempt.
Those are the very first groups # 3 to 7 ( the 2 first groups was to sight the rifle )

Not bad but I knew there is more into it...

So today, I went back to the range, it was a really nice day for shooting ( IMO one of the best this summer ) and decided to test the torque settings of the action screws.
It likes 17 to 20 in/lb. Will try 18.5 next time.

So finally, here is my official entry :

1982 Anschutz 1813 Super-match in a modern BR2 stock.
Vintage Leupold M8 24X.
Front rest is a wood box with 2 sand bags.
Protektor rear bag.
Ammo is Lapua Center-X

Gosh I like this rifle, it shoots so well !
I will put a nice 30mm glass on it this winter.
I also have to buy a 3 inch flat front bag for my steady rest.
Now the 1/4 challenge ;)

Great shooting. I added you to the successful list.

Another Anschutz made the challenge...
Did it 2 weeks ago, on a very nice sunny day, warm without any wind.

I was trying different ammo and it was so-so until I tried my *good batch* or Lapua Center-X, which shoots good in many of my rifles ( so glad I bought several bricks last year ). I saw right away that the rifle likes it so I thought, lets give the half inch challenge a try... I'm sure it will do even better when I will play with the action screws torque. That's a 1/2 inch capable rifle ;)

Rifle is a 1903 MS-R ( newer model )
