My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I tried today and failed. so far best group was .783 using CCI standard velocity. Pulled 1 shot in every group. Will gather more ammo to try and work on my technique and give this another try

Tried this today under quite windy conditions. Shot six targets and they were a no go, but 7 was the lucky one. Distance was 50 metres, ammo used was Eley Match, rifle is an Anschutz 54 Match action with a Llilja barrel, Harrell tuner and a Leupold Competition 45X scope. Caldwell front rest and a rear bag. Mostly sunny conditions but the wind couldn't make up its mind from what direction to blow and how strong.:mad: I'll try this another day without the wind.:D Sure wish there was an indoor 50 yard range in the Lower Mainland, I'm jealous of JasonYuke's range and on his own property to top it all off!
Here's the info.
Raw group sizes/final group sizes were: .526/.311, .406/.189, .470/.355, .520/.305, .422/.207. The average group size is .273"

Alright, did this quickly this morning before the wind came up. There was a slight breeze. Just did it off the back patio off a super shaky patio table. Lazer ranged my target at 51 yards from the muzzle. I used a CZ 452 Varmint with a Leupold 2-7x28 rimfire scope. took me two attempts, first one with SK Rifle Match (which had two groups over .5") and second one with Lapua Center-X. Here is my entry:

CZ 452 Varmint

Smallest group = .296

All groups:

Group sizes are as follows:
1) 0.377
2) 0.364
3) 0.386
4) 0.296
5) 0.487

Average = 0.382

I didn't have a piece of cardboard under the paper while shooting so the group sizes may have a margin of error, however I opened my calipers to .722 (max allowable) and my biggest group was definitly smaller than that. With a more stable table the groups would have shrunk a bit I'm sure, but for a gopher .22 I don't think it did too bad.

Hey Underthegun can we add a sub-section to this? I've been tring to pull this off with my 17 HMR (as you already know :D) in the 100 yd 1/2 MOA over in P. R. I know this is going to happen once the snow has melted and I can shoot off a solid surface. If I post in Precision Rifles Yodave may get angry and hurl insults at me.

Since 1/2" at 50 is almost too easy for a HMR how about 17/22 mags have to shoot at 100 yds/m. Group size could be opened up to 3/4 MOA (I say leave it at 1/2"), and all other conditions remain the same.

There is a 5 shot 3/4" challenge that your 17 would qualify for. It is in the precision rifle forum. It is for heavy barrel/varmint rifles.
