My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

It is also nice to see someone showing the integrity to use the diameter of one of their bullet holes.
0.197 is extremely close to the truth as all target mediums produce different size holes.
I doubt there was ever a 22 long rifle that produced a 0.224 (key holing being the exception or printing targets on Scotties products)!
An outside to outside measurement of 0.723 is not and never will be a half inch group unless you use the magical 0.224.
If there is no single shot to be measured then I would not question it . . . regardless Toilet paper is hard to print targets on and even harder to score!

My holes are also smaller than .220, that's why I measure them from the center of one hole to another center.

That been said, the hole is smaller but if I measure the dark area around the holes, its pretty close to .22

I bought a sleeve of 100 sheets of card stock today from staples. 4 different colors and much stiffer than copy paper for crisper holes. $10 and then I put my 1/4" sticky dots on the paper. Should be much clearer to measure groups.
 
This is my second weekend with this rifle, a 1913A BR50. It was a bit nippy this morning at 4 degrees. I still have room for improvement.




From left to right 0.224, 0.235, 0.312, 0.349, and 0.267. Average group size: 0.277
I was shooting Midas Plus. The scope is a Sightron SIIB 36X.



As noted above, there is room for improvement with this rifle. Like any rifle, it shows preferences for what kind of hold to which it responds well and to which it does not. I'm still working on finding what hold has the best results and the torque to which the action screws should be set. I've only shot SK Standard Plus and a couple of boxes of Midas Plus. And like any rifle, it reveals a shooter's shortcomings very readily. When a mistake is made, it is obvious, and they are mine and not the fault of the rifle, barrel, or ammo.
 
Good shooting, that set up should start producing some group's in the teens. My MPR shot 2 group's in the teens the last time out. You may have better results with center x.Have you tried any center x in the 1913 yet?

Thanks, Rod. Yes, this is the Junior Practice target. I'm not ready for the Standard Practice yet; maybe I'll skip it and go directly to the Senior (Citizen's) target when I'm ready to move on. ;)

Thanks, Ryan. I don't have any Center-X left. I've shot a number of very small groups, even with SK Standard Plus, but unfortunately not all on the same target sheet. I think when I get more used to the rifle, and if the weather warms up a little before it snows, I'll be able to do better than the target posted above.
 
Grauhanen for the rifle to already shoot such good groups is a very exciting sign! You've got yourself a real treat there and I'm sure you'll be breaking personal records with it in no time. Have you any RWS or Eley to try in it? While I've had some decent and OK results with the other brands SK/Lapua has consistently performed the best in all my rifles so far. The 1913A obviously does well with SK/Lapua as well, interesting to see what results it will put out with different ammo.

I think you missed my intended humour. I was referring to the 500 yards that is printed at the top of the target. Possibly it is a misprint & should state 50 yards. :)

I know you were referring to the 500 yards printed on the target. I was trying to say that the Standard Practice target would be harder still. The 500 yards is on there as part of my attempt at humour. The website used for making the target allows you to make your target titles as well as number and size of bulls.

It is in fact designed as a 50 yard target. The distance I shot was 172 measured feet or about 57.3 yards. It used to be 58 yards at this range, but recent berm work has changed things a little.
 
BUMP! This is too important to let drop. Great reference to see what guns & set up we are using. I am not there but working on it. Gun will do it I don't. Keep up the good work guys, I will try to get to range when back lets me.
 
Woo hoo my new to me 1813 super match is on its way, I smell another challenge!
Gotta burn up some center X before the snow flys.
 
^^ Nice! Ain't it fun how I have a Savage on the list but my Weatherby XXII and CZ W/Lilja can't make the grade? I might be able to pull off a squeaker of .4s with the CZ but it sure ain't coming easy. Time for another project...

Groups are .466" .399" .322" .355" .441" Average .396" smallest .322" correction used .222"

Might want to check your calipers, says. 322 on digital display look at the hash marks it's about .55".you may want to recalibrate.

Explanation:

First you zero at .000" with them closed then move out to .222" and zero again from there and all the measurements after that are done automatically with said correction. Try it easy to get the grouping.All it does is start your new zero -.222" out from first zero.That is a common way to get the centers of two studs on a fixture without using a calculator do first zero move out the diameter of one stud zero again and measure studs outside to outside and you automatically get the center to center.Same can be done when trying to get center spacing of two holes when the screws are not there.Easy way to get screw centers drilled on a barrel. Hope you can use the tip on digital calipers. :)
